proposal: one of those short stories about very long-lived humans for whom "permission to reproduce" is a scarce resource, but one of the ways to make it easier to acquire is agreeing to let your kid participate in a ton of studies

(there are way more people who want to study kids than there are kids, so the studies get filtered a lot and obviously evil ones don't make the cut)
