i kind of have an issue with the phrase "art is inherently human" and similar phrases.
i understand the intention behind it obviously, we all hate gen ai and we all know why, but to say art is human is to directly exclude nonhuman and alterbeing artists. now i don't. think.. most of the people saying these things know alterhumans exist... or don't understand that someone could see themselves as anything but human, but it still irks me in a way.
by no means is this a big or important issue, its just a personal pet peeve because i am not human and i've made art all my life, and i really don't like being (unintentionally) pushed out of a fight i'm also a part of. but i know that when people say "human" they mean me too. in the same way i know when people say "women" in a social or political context, they mean me too even though i'm not a woman.
i think it may just be weird to me because humans don't know they're excluding a whole group of people and artists whose work is just as valuable in the fight against gen ai and corporate fascism. the "woman" thing is acceptable to me because even though i'm not a woman i'm still affected by misogyny, and for that i can understand using woman-centered language when referring to an issue mostly suffered by women, even if i am a man who suffers from it.
with nonhumanity it feels a bit more fickle, which i think it is. like we don't suffer systemic oppression specifically for our nonhumanity, but its still a thing that bothers me?? idk i feel as though i've lost my train of thought on this one... i guess i wanna see if this is bugging any other beings.. feels weird
