I think it’s a good idea to put all the different interpretations of journey to the west in alternate universe bubbles. Like here’s the og universe that’s about achieving Buddhism in this corner we have queer coded legos over there is the K drama and a bit to the left is the sci fi movie.
You might hate one version of a character but love another. Our opinions and head canons about one probably won’t apply to others. A character could be an absolute trash bag in one but amazing in something else! Your favorite ship could be amazing in one but completely incompatible it another. Queer in one straight in another it doesn’t matter.
All of this is great and it’s amazing that we have so many interpretations but we’ve gotten to the point where the book has out grown itself and that’s ok but we shouldn’t shame specific interpretations because we like or are used to something different.
