There is an official FV Discord server you can join, you can find the button next to User Settings, my friends and I also run a Discord server which I advertise in my profile and signature, events still happen from time to time, I just recently wrapped up the Art Secret Santa event, and there are also staff hosted and user hosted contests every once in a while, FV is still plenty social if you know where to look, otherwise be the change you want to see!

So far I have had to compensate only 3 people with a 4th one I need to doodle for still, I usually doodle something that doesn't take me any longer than 3-5 minutes to make, I did have someone in the thread offering to help with compensating people, but as long as there are no big amounts of people that need to be compensated all at the same time I'll be fine doing it by myself for now

Last thing I'm gonna say on this, of course people blatantly ripping off designs shouldn't be allowed to get away with it, of course a lot of designs are going to have similarities, if you see a design that isn't an obvious ripoff but still reminds you of something, don't say it, even if you mean to say you like it, you don't know how the artist may feel or react, they might not quit on the spot but it can give them self-doubt, just say you like the design if it reminds you of something you like

@The anon of post/187291522397/ Everyone who does creative crafts knows that pretty much 80% of everything has been done already, that doesn't mean it's okay to leave a comment saying "Your X looks like Y" and nothing else, comparing someone's X to Y just for the sake of comparing is and always will be unnecessary and dickish because it literally helps no one, it costs exactly $0.00 to leave a nice comment instead or say nothing at all and let people have their have fun

@puppychomp They posted on the thread linking to another species on Instagram saying that the JellBells looked like that + submitted that earlier post saying the same thing basically, which is a very asshole move to do, you don't ever compare someone's OCs or species to other characters or species no matter what, the only thing you'll accomplish with that is making the artist feel bad and make yourself look like a grade A cunt

@post/647749431401349120 Staff care more about a user's wellbeing than whether or not a report is false so you should definitely report the post, my guess is that the rule is mostly in place so people don't file joke reports against friends for being called peepee poopoo head or spam staff with dumb shit, you won't get punished if you file a report on something that doesn't break the rules but still concerns you, staff actually encourage people to contact them if there's concerns or questions
