"𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐞  .  .  .  "  a  heavy  sigh  pushes  past  his  lips,  brows  furrowing.  how  does  he  explain  to  vi  that  somethings  are  just.  that  some  things  are  beyond  what  he  should  be  explaining  to  someone  so  young,  who  shouldn't  worry  about  these  things.  a  hand  rises,  only  to  rest  atop  his  head,  offering  an  apologetic  smile.  "  .  .  .  it's  what  i  have  to  do.  i'll  be  back,  vi.  but  do  me  a  favor,  yeah?  keep  the  others  out  of  trouble  until  i  get  back."  he  pulls  his  hand  back  to  clasp  it  over  vi's  shoulder,  squeezing.  "i'm  trusting  you  in  my  absence,  vi.  whatever  you  do,  do  not  open  the  doors  for  anyone.  make  smart  choices,  son."  his  hand  rises  to  poke  at  vi's  forehead,  the  corner  of  his  mouth  twitching.  "i  know  you've  got  a  hard  head  on  your  shoulders,  but  you've  got  a  smart  one,  too.  use  it."

i know i'm not everything that you had hoped & imagined that i would be, but i did my best.

VI IS A DOG WITH NO LEASH, and Caitlyn feels personally responsible for him. She looks at him with the same sewn together expression of pain & dismay, a slight frown to her lips that punctuates her cheekbones & thins her lips. ❛ Violet. ❜

Recently, he had decided to go against the grain & act on his own accord. It felt like tearing a muscle to Caitlyn. The hands that once cradled Vi’s face now twitched in his presence, murkying the waters of trust. She looks at him now & only sees a vestige of his former self, one she thought they put effort in together. A joint unit. They were once a two headed dog, but all Caitlyn sees is a stump where Vi has forcibly removed her head on his shoulder.

❛ Of course you did. I don’t deny that, Vi. ❜ There’s nothing in the world that Caitlyn wouldn’t give up for Vi, but there’s something lingering in the darkness—the subtle shadow beneath Vi’s words—that she just cannot grasp. A darker reality in Vi’s eyes.

There’s something to be said about this, something poetic, & yet all Caitlyn can feel is cowhide. ❛ No one is perfect. I wouldn’t expect you to be. ❜ Her fingers trace up to Vi’s throat, lingering on his Adam’s apple like her fingertips were imparting an invisible leash on his skin. ❛ I didn’t mean to make you.. insecure. ❜

Vi must be a creature of shame. Caitlyn can’t relate. Poor thing.
