I’ve just rewatched “Does This Duckbill Make Me Look Fat?” and it’s funny to imagine that people who didn’t watch/don’t remember this episode might see these screenshots and freak out that it looks like they found out Perry’s secret
But nope Candace and Perry accidentally switched bodies when both went through a teleportation device at the same time
I know it’s a common trope in cartoons to do this type of episode and that when it happens the characters will keep their original voices as to not confuse the viewers but I kinda wish we could’ve seen Candace in Perry’s body only able to chatter and for Perry in Candace’s body to be able to speak in her voice (but only one line)
[Edit: platypaws has drawn a little comic of this <-]
But that’s a just random thought I had and if I’m honest I do like that the show limits Perry from really “speaking” or how he’ll have only a few moments where he’ll write something down
He’s like Ferb in that sense! Both are rectangular shaped characters that only “talk” when they have something they want to say! (No wonder they’re my top 2 favorite characters)
Ok you know what i think about a lot. YOU KNOW WHAT I THINK ABOUT A LOT.
So the “big kiss” in Act Your Age.
It’s iconic. And so sweet and SO satisfying. But like. We don’t talk about the actual buildup to the kiss enough and how GOOD it is.
So rewind a bit.
(these screen caps aren’t relevant to the post, I just had to include them because they’re adorable🥺. I love Phineas😭)
So. Anyway. Phineas approaches Isabella’s car, and he steps back to let her open her door and maintains that space even after the door is shut. he’s GIVING ISABELLA HER SPACE.
and THEN. when he DOES initiate their first kiss, HE STILL MAINTAINS THAT SPACE. He just gently takes her face in his hands and kisses her. This kiss isn’t possessive or forceful, it’s just sweet. And gives Isabella ample room to pull away if this isn’t what she wants.
and then ISABELLA IS THE ONE TO PULL PHINEAS CLOSER. THEY BOTH HAVE AGENCY HERE. This kiss is 100% mutual!
I JUST. This is so so important!!! Consent is important! Respecting your partner’s boundaries is important!! GOSH it’s no wonder I still love these two so much after all this time, they respect each other so muchhh and taught me a lot about what I want in a future relationship 😅.
Does Phineas and Ferb do relationships perfectly? no. not by a long shot. It didn’t even do Phinabella perfectly. but THIS moment right here?
I’d say it’s about as close to perfect as you can get 💕
So with the recent catu previews, I thought I’d talk a little about Candace, since from the synopsis alone, Candace’s insecurities will play a huge role in the plot.
I apologize for the order of things in this post. I’m skipping around.
Unfair Science Fair Redux Another Story
OK yes, the synopsis of catu is basically the plot of this episode. But I don’t mind an expansion of this situation.
Candace gets very desperate if her friends are too busy to hang out with her.
Note: This has nothing to do with the rest of this post but I like how someone decided to just draw a random koala head here. It serves no purpose but I love it.
Candace misinterprets the text message “CYL BFF -S” as Stacy breaking off their friendship, when Stacy’s just saying she’ll call her later. And we all know Stacy has the patience of a saint so she wouldn’t break off their friendship just like that.
“Feels like I don't exist anymore, like I'm a nobody. I wish I could go to some cool faraway place and start over.” -Candace
Season 1 doesn’t feature much character development (a few exceptions exist, but they aren’t in the A plot much), though it lays the groundwork for the PnF characters’ surface personalities. Candace is still a bit of a stereotypical teenage girl here, but she has anxious traits that make her feel like a real teenager, and not just a stereotype.
Looks like catu will be the third time Candace tries to start fresh in a faraway place.
Gi-Ants
“Why is it that when Phineas and Ferb have an idea, everyone's like "Oh, wow, you guys are really clever!" And when I come up with something, everyone goes "What? Did you say something, Candace?”” -Candace
Candace creates a bear made out of baklava, but she doesn’t display much confidence in her creations because her brothers can literally break every law of space-time whenever they feel like it, and they get noticed while she doesn’t. And while she loves her brothers, she can’t help but feel second to them in most areas. It’s similar to Heinz’s jealousy of Roger, except that the Flynn-Fletcher siblings are in a healthy and functioning blended family.
Okay, I’m an only child so I don’t know much about sibling dynamics, but even a healthy sibling relationship can have its flaws, though some communication will definitely go a long way (hopefully enough to prevent a mess like the Stan and Ford Pines situation XD).
There’s a similar conflict in the Mom’s Birthday episode, where Phineas, Ferb, and B plot interference accidentally undermine Candace’s attempts to give Linda a great birthday, and she feels like she can’t measure up to her brothers, even though she wrote a great and heartfelt song to her mom.
Candace feeling as though she’s not listened to feeds into her desire to be in charge, because at least when she’s leading something that means someone’s gotta be paying attention to her ideas.
Monster from the Id
There is literally an episode about Candace’s psych and how her anxieties are large enough to rival Niagara Falls.
Candace’s anxieties are palpable enough that even the eternally optimistic Phineas is unnerved by the sheer amount of them.
Where’s Perry Part 2
I decided to just put the entire song here. This one is the second time Candace decides she can’t take the pressure and wants to live elsewhere.
Candace is very self-aware of how her various neuroses affect her, but no matter how much she tries to change them, they’ll always be a part of her. While she’s surrounded by loving family, great friends, and an understanding boyfriend, sometimes it’s just not enough and the slightest breakdown in one of these areas, even when it arises out of circumstance and isn’t anyone’s fault, can emotionally affect her to the point where she feels the need to escape.
It’ll be fun and possibly heartbreaking to see Candace in action since it’s likely that all of the above will come into play. Looking forward to this movie!
Veterinarian: “Oh, I almost forgot, it's free chipping today. Would you like to have him chipped?”
Phineas: “Nah, he's a platypus. They don't do much.”
My gut reaction when I watched “A Chip to the Vet” was that this was a lame excuse because Phineas and Ferb know that Perry disappears every day! But of course an excuse had to be made since O.W.C.A. can’t have Perry tracked by the vet because O.W.C.A. are already tracking him
Anyways, I realized it’s not what Phineas says but what he means! Phineas SAYS Perry doesn’t need to be chipped because he doesn’t do much but what he actually MEANS is that he and Ferb trust Perry to the point they don’t need to get him chipped
They know that Perry will always reappear when he disappears! “Hey, where’s Perry?” isn’t said with panic and “Oh, there you are Perry!” is said casually, which is part of their daily routine
On some occasions, they wish he would’ve stayed to have fun with them but ultimately they have complete trust in Perry to come home (he’s like an outdoor cat)
Also the boys never think that Perry is “mindless” because even in pet mode Perry’s not just pretending to be their family pet (Rewatch AT2D if you don’t believe thissss)
At the end of the “Backyard Aquarium” episode the boys briefly talk about setting something free if you love it🥺
Ferb: “Well, you know what they say. If you love something, set it free.”
Phineas: “Yeah, we do it every day with Perry!”
The full saying is “If you love something, set it free. If it comes back, it’s yours. If it doesn’t, it never was.”
And in “No More Bunny Business” Phineas and Ferb aren’t concerned to see their pet platypus suddenly appear on the chimney and trust him to get himself down
Bit off topic but why did Linda leave her sons at the vet without her? She didn’t even offer a reason as to where she went (we all know the real reason was that so she wouldn’t see the pet wash)
Is this a “yes” or “no” question? Is it more complicated? Ultimately, that’s up to you!
Is she the best cartoon Mom? No, she has obvious flaws but in my opinion she’s not all bad! Especially compared to Doofenshmirtz’s Mom!!!
But I understand why some people don’t like her and viewer perspective plays a key role. A younger audience is more likely to see Linda as a bad Mom, while an older audience is more likely to see the bigger picture (and it can depend on the amount of times you’ve watched the show)
Angry that Linda doesn’t see what the boys do? Yes, it can be very annoying but it’s not really her fault because the show intentionally keeps Linda unaware if we apply real world logic, so the real blame is the “mysterious force” and the script
Also Linda’s in her 40s to 50s so it makes sense she’s struggling to believe or keep up with her hyper 15 year old daughter (16 in the revival) but she still continuously answers her phone to come home and lets Candace drag her to the backyard
Think that Linda calls Candace “crazy” or is a “dismissive” or “neglectful” Mom? Yes, there are instances that support this but think about real world logic again because we the viewers see everything but Linda doesn’t. Also think how when Candace screams at Linda that the boys have build some crazy thing EVERY single day and Linda repeatedly doesn’t see anything then those words lose all meaning
How you’d feel if you had someone who kept interrupting you every time you were shopping, cooking, watching a movie, hanging with friends, at the dentist, sleeping, etc to try to show you something you never actually see? Linda has dealt with that for months if not YEARS
You can roll your eyes at me, but admit there’s truth in the points I’ve made! If you can’t see it then you’re in denial just like how Linda’s in denial that her kids have more than “overactive imaginations”
Anyway, I’m going to go over some episodes in non-chronological order that indicate Linda is a good parent (not perfect but not bad)
Don’t like long posts? Then this isn’t for you😅
(By the way, I’m not counting what Linda does in “Phineas and Ferb get Busted” because that was a dream within a dream within a dream)
• In the episode “Mom’s Birthday” Linda is shown to love and appreciate everything that her kids do for her! And even though she’s unaware that Candace’s efforts were unintentionally overshadowed by what Phineas and Ferb did, Linda does mention more than once that she doesn’t want the boys to overdo it:
“Oh, wow. You boys really outdid yourselves.”
“Oh, those boys are too much!”
“Oh, I hope the boys don’t go overboard with my present.”
And she asks where Candace is because she wants to spend time with her too: “Candace? Candace? Where’d she go?” Then later she asks Candace to sit next to her: “Candace, honey, come join us. The boys have put together a little video.”
Then Phineas and Ferb’s video reveals the song Candace wrote:
Phineas: “But a true testament to what a great Mom you are, is that your daughter would take the time to write this song.”
*The video reveals Candace practicing her “I Love You Mom” song in the music room*
Linda shreds a tear and goes over to hug Candace then says, “What a beautiful song, honey!”
And tells Lawrence on a video call: “The boys threw me the greatest party. And Candace wrote me this really amazing song.” Which brings a smile to Candace’s face!
(-> Here’s Candace’s full song on YouTube <-)
• Speaking of birthdays, in “Candace Loses Her Head” Linda makes Candace a birthday breakfast: “Happy birthday, Candace! I made you a special breakfast!” *holds a plate with a stack of pancakes with whipped cream, syrup, and a birthday candle on top*
Then the boys make them go to Mt. Rushmore and Linda offers to buy Candace anything she wants in the gift shop (at least she’s trying)
Linda: “Okay, Candace. It’s your birthday, you can pick out anything you want. Ooh, what about the Mt. Rushmore bobble head?”
Candace: “Mom, that's lame.”
But during the end credits Jeremy gifts Candace the same Mt. Rushmore bobble heads because he saw her looking at them and she immediately loves it and calls today the best birthday ever
Also before Linda can see the statue of Candace’s face it explodes with lava but Linda mistakenly believes Candace was talking about the president monument and says: “You're right! It's beautiful! *hugs her* Happy birthday, honey. *kisses Candace on the cheek* Now let's go find your father.”
• Another birthday episode is “Phineas’ Birthday Clip-O-Rama!” where Linda is shown frosting the cake for her son’s birthday party: “Where are you, Candace? You promised you’d help frost the cake after you got Phineas’s present.” And later serving it to the party guests: “All right, everybody. *standing next to a cake with a Phineas ornament on top* Who wants cake?”
• In “Out of Toon” Candace tries to call Linda and her voicemail says: “Hi, this is Mom. Leave your psychotic rant about the boys when you hear the beep.”
And before you go Ah ha! Proof Linda’s a bad Mom! listen to the voicemail Candace leaves: “Uhh! Mom, come home quick! There’s a giant mob, I’m a super fiend, I’m roasting them with laser vision! Hey, what do you mean, psychotic rant?”
Candace is talking about how Phineas and Ferb made her the super villain in their cartoon show (ironic) but her wording definitely doesn’t help her case of it not being a “psychotic rant” and at the end of the episode this exchange happens:
Linda: “Well, I’m here. Now, where’s this giant animation studio?”
Candace: “It got up and it danced away.”
Linda: “It what?”
Candace: “It got up and it danced away.”
Linda: “It got up and danced away…?”
Candace: “See? It even sounds crazy when you say it. I'll be in my room.”
• Another time Candace says something unbelievable to her Mom (that I want to bring up because it’s funny) is in “Split Personality” when Candace tells her the boys “made” her:
Busting Candace: “Mom, Phineas and Ferb made me!”
Linda: “Um, I’ve got some stretch marks that would say otherwise.”
Busting Candace: “No, I mean, they split me in half! Well, not like I’m cut in half, but they’ve made another me.”
• In “Tour de Ferb” Linda just got out of the shower and Candace picks up her up against her will and puts her Mom in her bicycle basket while Linda’s only wearing towels and a robe but instead of getting super mad about this (wouldn’t you?) Linda is glad that she picked that day to wear her bike helmet into the shower
Candace: *picks Linda up* “I know where the last obstacle is. Hee-hee-hee-hee.”
Linda: “Whoa! Whoa! *gets placed in the bicycle basket* Candace, I'm not even dressed!
Candace: “Sorry Mom, it’s an emergency!”
Linda: “Luckily, I picked today to wear my bike helmet into the shower.”
• In “Lawn Gnome Beach Party of Terror” Linda gets worried when Candace hasn’t called her like usual and leaves the spa to go see what’s wrong: “Something is very wrong. Not a single call from Candace. *checks her phone* Not even a text message. Oga hose me down. I'm going home.”
Then she calls Candace while driving home:
Linda: “Uh, Candace? Is everything okay?”
Candace: “Ohh, everything is just wonderful...”
Linda: “And...Phineas and Ferb? What are they doing?”
Candace: “Ohh, such wonderful things...”
Linda: “Candace, honey, I’m coming home.”
Candace: *breaks out of trance* “Wait, WHAT?”
Linda: “I’m right around the corner; I’ll be there in two minutes.”
Candace: “Wait! No Mom, you can’t!”
This is the first time we see Candace have fun with her brothers instead of trying to bust them, but her unusual behavior worries Linda enough that she leaves in the middle of her spa day to go home to see what’s going on to cause this change in routine. Sure, she “ruins” Candace’s time with Jeremy but it's mostly out of concern
• Something similar happens in “Tree to get ready” where Phineas and Ferb and Candace and Stacy are having a treehouse robot fight but Linda wonders why Candace hasn’t called:
Linda: “Hmm. That’s funny. I haven’t gotten the usual call from Candace.*gets phone out and calls her* Candace, honey, I’m at the car-wash, and I’m be heading home very soon. Bye bye.”
Candace: “Oh, no!”
Again Linda unintentionally “ruins” the fun but it works out in this episode since they all race back home and the treehouse robots break into normal treehouses before Linda gets there:
Linda: “Looks like you’re having fun.”
Phineas: “Well, Mom, you know what they say-” *Candace and Stacy throw a water balloon at him*
Ferb: “Fun never falls too far from the tree house.” *Also gets hit by a water balloon*
• In “It’s a Mud, Mud, Mud, Mud World” Linda goes to her cooking class and her cooking instructor breaks her phone after Lawrence called her about the boys having a monster truck in the backyard:
Chef Guilbaud: “Ahem. Madam Flynn, I have told you a hundred times, *uses meat tenderizer to break phone* No phone calls in class!”
Funny enough, his phone rings but it’s actually Candace asking to speak with Linda, implying this happened often enough that she has her Mom’s cooking instructor's contact information but Linda still picks up the phone despite being glared at and threatened
Candace: “Mom, I think the boys are building a monster truck.”
Linda: “Um, honey, I gotta go. No- B-Big chef. Big meat tenderizer in front of Mommy! Bye bye.”
• In “Ask a Foolish Question” she makes Phineas and Ferb homemade granola bars:
Linda: “Hey boys, want some fat-free whole-grain granola bars? They're still warm from the oven.”
Phineas: “Whole-grain and fat-free? *They each take a granola bar* You know us so well.”
Linda: “Yes, yes I do.”
Then the boys end up building a super computer just to ask it what’s the nicest thing they can do for Mom that day:
Phineas: “You know, Mom's always doing nice things for us. I think it's time that we did something nice for Mom!”
Then Linda goes out to use a coupon for a free hair styling from a new salon but she comes home with bags under her eyes and ugly yellow hair
Candace: “Mom! Mom! Mom! Mo…*Stops when she sees Linda’s hair* Uhhhh....”
Linda: “I’m having a bad day.”
Candace: “Uh, never mind. Come on, come on, come on! *Pushes Linda into the backyard with eyes closed* It’s over here! It’s over here! See?”
And when Linda doesn’t see the giant super computer she complains that it’s too much that day: “You know, Candace, most days, this is just a little disturbing. But today, with the free coupon and this whole awful thing with my hair…”
But if you remember Phineas and Ferb had followed the super computer’s instructions and unknowingly fixed her hair:
Phineas: “We did something nice for Mom! We fixed her bad hairdo. Apparently.”
• In “Journey to the Center of Candace” (and in most other episodes) Linda takes an interest in what her kids plan to do that day
Linda: “What a beautiful summer day. Do you boys have anything exciting planned?”
Phineas: “We’re either gonna make this nuclear-powered submarine or this incredible shrinking ray. But for some reason, Ferb and I can't seem to make up our minds.”
Linda: “Well, I’ve made up my mind. *hugs Phineas and then hugs Ferb* You two have the most wonderful imaginations.”
But she’s in denial that her sons aren’t playing pretend so there’s a clear disconnect (too bad she’s unaware she’s a cartoon character)
Candace: “It’s real, you know.”
Linda: “What’s real, dear?”
Candace: “The submarine? The shrinking ray? They’re really gonna build that stuff.”
Phineas: “Well, actually we haven’t decided yet- *Candace uses her spoon to push Phineas away by his nose*
Candace: “Anyway, when I try to bust them, everything will just magically disappear. Always happens. you’ll see. Well, you won’t see. I'll see, trust me.”
Linda: “As usual, the imagination in this room is astounding!”
Hey, at least we know where Phineas gets his “oblivious genes” from
Also it’s hinted that her kids enjoy Linda’s cooking:
Phineas: “Ah tacos. You know who makes the best tacos? Mom!”
• In “Bee Day” Linda mentions how she and Candace played in an inflatable wading pool when she was little after seeing one: “Oh, look at that, an inflatable wading pool. Oh, it’s just like the one I used to play in with Candace when she was little. Remember, hon?”
This gives Phineas and Ferb the idea for what they’ll do that day. Then when Candace takes a teen identity magazine test and it tells her that she’s emo Linda is supportive:
Linda: “Hi, honey. Love the new look.”
Candace: “You obviously don’t know me. Nobody does. And if somebody did, I’d just deny it.”
Linda: “Sweetie, I went through a similar phase when I was your age. Try writing some poems.”
Candace: “Whatever. I don’t care, No one gets me... Except my hair.”
Linda: “That's my girl.”
Candace is later seen writing poems under the tree, which means she followed Linda's suggestion. Bees deflate the giant inflatable wading pool before Linda comes outside to offer everyone iced tea, but she joins some kids in Candace’s old Ducky Momo one:
Linda: “Hey, kids! *Comes out with a tray with a pitcher and glasses of iced tea* Anyone up for some iced tea?”
Phineas: “Sure! Thanks, Mom!”
Linda: “Oh, look! You kids found Candace’s old wading pool! How sweet!”
Phineas: “We’re gonna have a pool party! Go ahead, wade away!”
Linda: *Dipping feet into the pool with Isabella, Holly, and Gretchen* “Aw, it’s just like old times.”
• In “Rollercoaster: The Musical!” Linda does call her “crazy” but Candace is getting in the way of her going grocery shopping for the who knows what time and she does suggest that Candace yell at the cheese in the grocery store until she feels better (which is funny since Candace is allergic to dairy and shows that Linda does care)
Candace: *Pulls Linda to where the poster used to be* “Here, look, look, look, look, look, see? I told you I'm not crazy! I told you!”
Linda: “And you’re not crazy because...?”
*Candace screams when she opens her eyes to see the poster’s gone*
Linda: “I see your point, Candace. No crazy person would scream at a post like that. I’ll be in the dairy section if you want to come yell at some cheese. *goes off-screen then comes back* Would you like that, honey? Would you like to yell at some cheese?”
Candace: “A little.” *takes Linda’s offered hand*
Linda: “Well, c’mon, then.”
• In “What A Croc!” Linda is shown trusting Candace to be in charge while she’s not home more than she trusts her husband after seeing him watching “Horse in a Bookcase” with the boys
Linda: “Alright, Candace, I’m headed out to the zoo to do my volunteer work.”
Candace: “Which means I’m in charge.”
Linda: “Well, not really, ‘cause Dad’s here. Right, honey?”
*Cuts to Lawrence, Phineas, and Ferb in the living room watching Horse in a Bookcase*
Lawrence: “That’s right, dear.”
Linda: *Looks at Candace* “You’re in charge.”
Candace: *Smiles and opens the door for Linda* “Bye, Mom! Have fun at the zoo!”
• In “Backyard Aquarium” it’s shown that Linda’s favorite author wrote the book series “You & Your High-Strung Teen” which implies that Linda reads a lot of books to try to understand her daughter (with varying degrees of success)
Linda: “I’ve gotta tell you, I read your first book and I love it.”
Bridgette Oshinomi: “Do you have a high-strung teen at home?”
Linda: “Uh, you could say that. *her phone beeps* Oh, this must be her.”
Bridgette Oshinomi: “She sent you a picture? Lemme see.”
Linda: “Well...okay.”
Bridgette Oshinomi: “How bad can it be? After all, I've been through with my own- *sees picture of Candace’s up close face while screaming* Oh. I think that maybe you need the rest of the set. *gives her two books* Uh, and why don't you take a whack at that first book again?”
Funny enough, this Bridgette Oshinomi character is also a news reporter who reported about Phineas and Ferb’s Perry the Inaction Figure in “Toy to the World”
• In “Phineas and Ferb Interrupted” Linda wants to spend the whole day with Candace:
Linda: “Hey hon, I was just reading this article about mothers and daughters, and really listening to your teen. And I realized I’ve hardly seen you all summer, so for the whole day today, it’s you and me. Whatever you want to do, I’m all yours. Anything at all.”
Although they end up sitting there watching the boys do nothing exciting after they got hit by Doof’s Dull-and-Boring Inator:
Candace: “Phineas, come on! What is wrong with you guys?”
Linda: “Candace?”
Candace: “Mom...”
Linda: “How about if I go get some lunch and bring it back for us?”
Candace: “No, no, no, stay, stay! I'm really enjoying this quality time with you.” *kisses her on the cheek*
Linda: “Me too, sweetie!”
• In “Hip Hip Parade” Linda and Candace have a girl’s day out but Linda understandably wants Candace not to try to bust or obsess over her brothers:
Linda: “Candace, you have to promise me that you won’t obsess about Phineas and Ferb.”
Candace: “Yeah, sure Mom, I promise.”
Linda: “Don’t just promise this time. Raise your right hand. Do you, Candace Gertrude Flynn, solemnly swear not to obsess about your brothers, or you’ll suffer the Pharaoh’s Curse?”
Candace: “The Pharaoh’s Curse?”
Linda: “Yes or no?”
Candace: “Okay, yes.”
Linda: “Okay, now we can have fun.”
And Linda says how she enjoys spending time with Candace!
Linda: “See Candace? Isn’t this nice to just get away and enjoy a day together?”
Candace: “You’re right Mom, this is the best. I’m not even going to think about– Mm, you know. I’m not even going to say their names.”
Linda: “That’s the spirit.”
But Candace is Candace and she can’t resist her busting instincts:
Linda: “Candace, I’m having a great time with you today. See how relaxing it is when you’re not obsessing about your brothers?”
Candace: “I can’t take it anymore! Mom, I really tried my best to give you a day, but it’s… the boys. The boys! They’re in the parade! With giant floats! So come on, you gotta bust them.”
• The whole “Ladies and Gentlemen, Meet Max Modem!” episode where Candace learns her Mom was Lindana:
Candace: “Mom, Mom, Mom, Mom! You never told me you were a pop star!”
Linda: “Oh yeah! Well, that was long before you were born. It was fun, but I was happy to give it up to raise a family.”
Then Candace comes with Linda to a revival concert (-> Here’s a video of that on YouTube <-) and she wants her daughter to sing with her onstage:
Linda: “I wouldn’t be here without you, honey. You backed me up all the way. So it’s only right that you should back me up onstage.”
Candace: “Me? Sing?”
Linda: “Just relax. You'll do fine.” *Candace grins and gives her a thumbs up*
Candace then had the time of her life! She and Linda even dance together during “Alien Heart”
We are aware of Suzy hates Candace so much just because she likes Jeramy and “taking him away” from Suzy.
We know that Jeramy said Suzy is his favorite girl, of course that’s his sister and he loved her very much.
But with Candace around, well yeah…
I’m pretty sure Candace would never replace Suzy or take her brother away, like Jeramy would never do that with Canden’s brothers. (Love boys’ relationship with Jeramy.)
I get it, Suzy is 4-5 years old, but sometimes her actions would have gone too far or worse. Things like that can happen in real life. Like what if she went too far and Candace got hurt pretty bad and couldn’t stand up? (There was episode she asked to babysit Suzy, she hides everything especially the kitchen knifes)
Yeah, I don’t like her actions, sure if Candace was bad and using her brother, I understand but hurting someone is not right, won’t make you feel better. Probably Suzy doesn’t understand, was of course she’s too young to understand. Her brother is teenager, almost an adult.
I’m shocked that her family didn’t catch her actions and her behavior, how awful she was towards Candace. How Candace survived Suzy’s attack.
I found it adorable that Suzy hugs Ducky Momo mascot while Candace was the one inside the entire time. Suzy doesn’t know but Jeramy does know it was her. (Nerds Of A Feather episode)
In one of episodes, where we saw the future and Candace’s future children, three kids, one of boys who look like Jeramy and it’s confirmed by Dan that the father of the children is Jeramy. (I believe the other boy’s hair brown was that because of genetic and someone must had brown in Jeramy’s family, and we don’t know what Phineas and Candace’s biological father looks like, not counting Lawrence, yea he’s their dad, but you know what I mean.)
The question is, do you think Suzy will grow out of the jealousy and hate towards Candace? I mean she can’t stay hate Candace forever. Like, will she stop attacking Candace? Will she be better person?
Well, if Suzy was caught in her actions towards Candace between the series and 30 years later timeline.
Do Phineas and Ferb not know what Suzy was doing to their sister or did I miss something?
My apologies for any mistakes.
Sorry, I couldn’t remember which episode’s name, those two episodes I was talking about-
Wasn’t expecting how much fun this ask was since Suzy’s one of my least favorite pnf characters (does anyone genuinely like her???)
[So short version first]
Do I think Suzy will grow out being jealous of Candace? Yep, I do think she will but I doubt it’ll happen on the show since it likely happens when she’s older like you mentioned
Do Phineas and Ferb know Suzy tortures Candace? Nope, they have no clue (Buford does)
[And now the long version]
Suzy is part of that common trope in cartoons (and real life to an extent) of “younger sister gets jealous when their older brother starts dating”
And she takes advantage of the whole “little kids get away with things they shouldn’t because they are supposedly too young to know any better” but I hate that excuse
Saying someone does something wrong because they didn’t know any better and not trying to teach them “better” is so STUPID in any context but I’m getting sidetracked because Suzy is fully aware of her “evil” actions
But you want to know if Suzy will grow out of being the jealous little sister? Well, I think she does eventually! Especially since she failed miserably to ruin Candace’s chances with being with Jeremy since they end up “boyfriend and girlfriend” by the end of Season 2 and will always continue to fail miserably in trying to keep Candace away
So it’d make sense when she’s older that she’ll stop being the possessive/manipulative little sister before Candace and Jeremy get married and have three children in the future (“Phineas and Ferb's Quantum Boogaloo”) like you’ve mentioned
And no one but Candace and Buford know about Suzy being “evil”
Candace: “No, Mom, you don't understand! She's evil!”
Linda: “Don't be silly, Candace. She's just a little girl. How much trouble could she be?”
Then Buford is shown to be terrified of Suzy in “One Good Scare Ought to Do It!”
Buford: “Behold; the face of evil!”
Phineas: “Buford, are you supposed to be Jeremy's little sister? You said you were gonna be something scary!”
Buford: “She is scary, man. She gives me the willies.”
Phineas: “Little Suzy Johnson gives you the willies?”
Buford: “You don't know, man. You don't know!”
So yeah Phineas and Ferb have no idea (Season 5 spoilers: I’ve seen people theorize Buford’s scared of Suzy because she might’ve caught him “flirting” with Jeremy like he does in “A Chip to the Vet” and Suzy doesn’t like anyone getting too close to Jeremy)
But let’s talk about the episode “Suddenly Suzy” which is when Candace accidentally agreed to babysit Suzy and takes place before Jeremy and Candace are officially dating. She throws away kitchen knives, the microwave, the blender, and her teddy bear Mr. Miggins then answers the front door wearing a huge foam protective suit
After Jeremy leaves Suzy does a evil laugh but then she says she won’t make Candace suffer when her brother isn’t around
Candace: “Aren't you going to do something horrible to me?”
Suzy: “Oh, no. Making you look bad is just one of the ways I control Jeremy. If he's not here, I'm off the clock.”
And when Candace says she can’t control Phineas and Ferb like that Suzy immediately is shocked and tries to help her bust them
Candace: “I wanna bust my brothers!”
Suzy: “Even better, get them to bust themselves!”
Surprisingly this works!
Candace: “Could you just help me out and call Mom?!”
Phineas: “What? So she can come and see this gigantic insanely high waterfall we built in the backyard?”
Candace: “Yes?”
Phineas: “Great idea! Can I borrow your phone?” *Candace gives Phineas her phone and Suzy gives her a thumbs up*
But to no one’s surprise the waterfall ride disappears before Linda gets home and Suzy says, “Results may vary?”
So the point is Suzy doesn’t seems to totally hate Candace when it’s just the two of them and yes they both share a love of Ducky Momo
Also her parents have technically caught Suzy being bad once in the “Let’s Bounce” episode where she was accidentally hit by Doof’s Tell-the-Truth-inator
Suzy: “I've been trying to make Candace look bad all morning!”
Mrs. Johnson: “Get over here Suzy. We're guests here, and guests do not behave like that.”
The last point I’ll make is that it makes more sense that Suzy is so jealous of Candace when you realize Candace and Jeremy have known each other longer than Suzy has been alive
Contrary to popular belief, it’s implied that Jeremy has liked Candace longer than she has liked him!
In the “Knot My Problem” episode Jeremy admitted that he admired Candace as early as Grade/Elementary school when she gave him a pencil and he kept it in a small safe for years
Candace: “A pencil?! This is what I've been obsessed with all day, a pencil?!”
Jeremy: “Oh, I remember that! In Grade school, a pretty girl loaned me that pencil and I've kept it ever since.”
Candace: “A pretty girl? Who was she?!”
Jeremy: “Candace, that pretty girl was you. See, those are your teeth marks.”
But Candace doesn't remember doing that and has mentioned she only started to crush on him during seventh grade in “Dude, We're Getting the Band Back Together”
Candace: “Are you kidding? Anniversaries are very important. Take June, for example. On the 3rd, Jeremy spoke to me for the first time back in the 7th grade.”
So yeah it seems Jeremy has liked Candace since before Suzy was even BORN
Thanks for the ask!🩵
[Edit: -> Here’s a post that’s like an addition of this one about what happened with Suzy in the “Meap Me in St. Louis” episode <-]
I would love an episode where we see Phineas and Ferb have a Parent-Child Day with Lawrence and Linda, respectively, for one-on-one time. Candace already had the Father-Daughter contest episode, so it would be nice to have the other duos complete the set.
I second this! And there would even a good opportunity to do an episode like that since the fourth Sunday of July is National Parents’ Day
We’ve had episodes with Candace spending mother-daughter time with Linda ↓
And episodes with Candace spending father-daughter time with Lawrence ↓
But there’s no episodes of the boys spending one-on-one time with their parents! It’s usually Phineas AND Ferb (I suppose that is the name of the showww)
There are, however, interactions between Phineas and Lawrence or Ferb and Linda sprinkled in the show if you look for them!! Like how there are various episodes where Linda would put her arm around Ferb when he stands next to her🥺
Or in “It’s About Time!” when Lawrence pats Phineas on the head and nicknames him “Phin”
For anyone that’s curious I looked through -> this list of their inventions/Big Ideas throughout the show <- to find big plot related moments the boys have with their parents
In “S’winter” Lawrence gives them a snow cone machine after they complain that it’s too hot to think, which gives them the idea to create S’winter (unbeknownst to Lawrence)
In “Are You My Mummy?” their Dad takes the boys and Candace to the theater to watch a mummy movie, which gives the boys the idea to search for a real mummy within the theater (unbeknownst to Lawrence)
In “Mom’s Birthday” they throw her a birthday party with a giant birthday card, a video presentation, Candace’s original song, and a video call with Lawrence who was out of town
In “Dude, We're Getting the Band Back Together" they (along with Candace’s help) reunite Love Händel for Linda and Lawrence’s wedding anniversary after he forgot it
In “Out to Launch” their Dad buys and names a shooting star after them from the internet so the boys build rockets to visit it (unbeknownst to Lawrence)
In “Just Passing Through” they build a Molecular Scrambler to find their Mom’s lost lucky guitar pick (unbeknownst to Linda)
In “Ladies and Gentlemen, Meet Max Modem!" they turn Lawrence into Max Modem when he feels insecure about Linda being Lindana
In “Ask a Foolish Question” they build a super computer just to ask it what’s the nicest thing they can do for Mom after she gives them homemade granola bars and the boys follow its instructions to unknowingly fix her bad hairdo
In “Magic Carpet Ride” the boys create a magic flying carpet for Lawrence after watching his favorite childhood show and seeing how disappointed he was when the magic words from the show didn’t work
In "Tri-State Treasure: Boot of Secrets" the boys help their Dad discover the ancient lost “Dorcham and Westley Boot Scraper” then turned what happened into a movie and won a contest (or it was a movie the whole time but it wouldn’t be surprising if they had recorded their actual adventure)
In “My Sweet Ride” the boys help their Dad restore the car he was working on to surprise Candace (and by help I mean Lawrence fell asleep and rolled away while they restored the whole thing within minutes unbeknownst to him)
In “Bee Day” the boys build a giant inflatable wading pool after their Mom mentions how she and Candace played in one when she was little but it disappeared before Linda saw it (but she still gets in an ordinary wading pool with the kids)
In “Father’s Day” the boys build a replica of the Fletcher Family Flying Circus biplane for Lawrence and Grandpa Reg as a surprise for Father’s Day so they all go on a enjoy ride
Season 5 Spoilers
In “Cloudy With a Chance of Mom” they use various block party attractions and fix Doof’s Vaporize-inator to save Linda after she was turned into a cloud
In “Biblio-Blast!” Lawrence asks for help in building a new bookcase after his old one collapsed and the while he’s in the garage the kids build a giant ultimate bookcase before Doofen-plants eat it down to a smaller size
How would Ferb react to his dad, who is his biological father?
I don’t know if he would have panic attacks, but probably he would when he saw his dad?
That would be before he, his siblings and friends realized Lawrence had turned into clans and need to be saved before it’s too late.
I mean I know, of course, Linda is Ferb’s mother, biological or not, but you know what I mean?
This is such an interesting question! I briefly wondered after I watched the episode what could’ve been different if Lawrence had been vaporized instead or if he could “disappear” in a future episode but the show likely won’t do that
Makes more sense for their Mom to disappear since Candace always tries get Linda to see the inventions while Lawrence already knows (→ video compilation on that here ←)
But back to your question, how would Ferb react? Would his reaction be more noticeable if Lawrence/his biological father vaporized instead? And how would Phineas and Candace react? They all clearly love their Dad so they’d definitely freak out like they did with their Mom!
Ferb is one of the less expressive characters (especially standing next to Phineas) but he’s NOT emotionless and we can see how worried/sad he looked!!!😥
In retrospect, I don’t think it would look too different since Ferb is often levelheaded in stressful situations. At least on the outside… he’s definitely screaming/panicking internally if you ask me and is scary good at hiding it
The show does not have many one-on-one moments between Lawrence and Ferb but we know that Candace and Phineas do not enjoy their Dad’s long speeches/stories as much as Ferb does (Candace often falls asleep)
Also he calls Lawrence “Father” more times than he does “Dad” while Linda is always “Mum” (Off topic a bit but Lawrence has nicknamed Phineas “Phin” which is so cute)
According to Swampy, Ferb kept his British accent from practice and interactions with Lawrence! And they both love to eat haggis, which is a traditional British or Scottish dish
Additionally, I think Candace would look even more confused why Lawrence was zapped since the “Mysterious Force” doesn’t usually work on him in the sense that he can see the inventions on occasion while Linda can’t. Plus there are many episodes that focus on Lawrence and Candace bonding (-> here’s an analysis about this by @forgottenpnffacts <-)
So long story short, Ferb would not “look” more panicked but perhaps he’d “feel” more panicked for a sec if that makes sense? But otherwise no real reason for a panic attack over one parent and not the other in my opinion. He likely never knew his biological mother and only grew up knowing Linda as his Mom!
