Hive inspections and adding honey supers...in 90 degree weather. We are right in the middle of the #honeyflow and the girls are packing in and drying as much honey as they can. It might be hotter than we’d like, but we need to do what we can to make sure they have what they need. I’m all wired up for another sleep study. Hopefully, they get some good data this time. . Getting old sucks. . So, something you may not know about me. I tend to be really shy. . I’m more of a listener than a talker (thankfully I’m also a good secret keeper, because I hear a LOT!!). . But, if you can get me talking about the right subject, you can’t get me to shut up. . Tonight, my sleep study tech got me talking about bees. Smh! Lol! But actually, it was a good thing because she and her family have been wanting to learn more about bees. . I was able to tell her about our local beekeepers association’s youth scholarship program, which really excited her for her daughter. I feel like we are in a race right now. A race to get our bees (this hive specifically) to a place where they have more than enough food stored up for the winter. . Three weeks ago this hive was booming and it still is. It’s grown in size while spending the summer at a friend’s house, 45 minutes away from us. We should have checked on them a week ago, but I was in the hospital. . We checked on them today only to find not only has the hive grown in size, but they have eaten almost all their honey stores! . This means we may end up supplementing their feed through the winter. . Our bees here on the property and those summering within 2-5 miles of us, are doing great! When your beehives are starting to fill up honey and you have supers stacked to the rafters. Due to a flare up, I wasn’t much help today, other than documenting and discussing options.
