required to take a personality test of sorts, not surprised with my results at all
On Wednesday the 23rd from 5:55 p.m. to 7:05 p.m. I was blind, well blind folded with my weird eye bra my aunt bought my around Christmas. Anyway I was at home for a lot of it but I walked on the road, across the bridge and into my backyard as well as in the house itself. Then I got in the car (I wasn’t driving) to go get pizza at Little Ceasars. I don't think it was that different. I adjusted pretty quickly. The only thing that actually frustrated or not really even that extreme was realizing that Friends was on and since it's a very physical comedy I couldn't understand what was going on. Only two other things threw me off: my sister attacking me and me being afraid of attack (which I avoided for the most part with the help of my hearing) and I could not judge distance worth a damn. The distance thing got better at the end when I was almost on point on how far we had gotten in the car but I'm gonna blame the music for me not knowing. My only real changes in perception were that I could tell when my dad got home because I could smell it (not a good smell either). My hearing became really enhanced, more than any other sense and allowed me to figure this out with relative ease. Of course touch helped with navigation and knowing where I was, especially in the house.
So it started out being this full body but alas time is a thing and I didn’t have it. Now I think that fact helped me and would’ve come to the conclusion somehow anyway. I started taking away bits and pieces. Like the body (which I just discarded of completely) but it just ended up visually showing the disembodiment we have when we are on the internet, that what we put on their doesn’t really have a cause or effect. Then I decide leave the head just a thin layer of plaster gauze and coat of paint. 1. because it represents innocence and naivety and 2. because it supports that even though it may be wrong to say sexist things that it is still that very simple right of freedom of speech. Lastly I had to think of a way to hang it because it didn’t even occur to me that I was just going to have a head, so the idea of electrical cords and chargers popped into my mind since we are always plugged in most of the time. Overall I think the thought I put into it worked out but man my aesthetic eye is just so not pleased with it. I think that was really hard for me to leave it the way it was. Honestly that was my biggest risk, mine didn’t have an aesthetically pleasing look to it and for someone who is so detail oriented like myself it was difficult to put it up there and then talk about it.
I worked through so many different ideas for this project, here are just a couple of those ramblings which evolved into something completely different
Hear 1000
I could not figure out a way to put this up here but it truly is a sound that reflects how I feel about twitter and the stupidity (specifically the sexism) on there. It’s a frustrated ‘urg’ sound that dissolves into laughter because as annoying and aggravating as what those tweets say, it’s just hilarious to this that people still think that way in 2016, they are on the wrong side of this whole situation.
This is my draw 1000 piece. Honestly I’m really happy with how the piece turned out. Initially there was going to be a lot more on it but once I reached this point I decided if I did anything else it was just going to bury whatever meaning I wanted it to have. Of course I’m hoping the idea that twitter is full of stupid things (sexist, racist, idiots, etc.) and it just makes me angry, makes me want to punch something but I would never actually cause physical harm to someone which is why the hand hasn't broken all the way through.
These were just some pretty quick ideas, again one had to be objective and the other subjective. In content they are...for the most part. The tweet I drew was one that I actually found and said those exact stupid ass words. The other is about how I feel about how a lot ignoramus’ use twitter.
Write 1000
OBJECTIVE:
I have collected tweets pertaining to the discussion of a woman’s role. The majority are written by men. The discuss women in sports, the army and her place in a household. They are generally against women in these generally male roles or that a woman to be in the kitchen. They also list their opinions on the appearance of women. These tweets will collected into a list that looks like the website.
SUBJECTIVE:
These are a group sexist tweets ranging from blatant disregard of a woman’s rights to hiding it behind certain words. They are opinionated and leave little room for argument. There are possessive words used to describe women as if they are their property and how they prefer them to look when it is the woman who gets to decide not them. The idea of gender roles is put into play where women can’t announce sports or shouldn’t be fighting on the front lines and that they should only take care of the house and the kitchen. The majority of the tweets start with “I’m not sexist but…” which is stupid because obviously you’re going to say something say something sexist. Just because you say “no offense..” doesn’t make what you say any less offensive. Not to mention they usually have #notsexist and #truth on there like that actually means something. Men just can’t stand that some of their perceived power is being “taken away.” It pisses me off so much that I can only look at so many at a time because sometimes I’ll laugh because it’s so stupid and the sometimes I feel like smashing my face against a wall after doing so.
