this recent wave of like white European witches playing in everybody's faces and inboxes about "de-coloninization" and "anti-imperialism" have me fucked up. I'm from Ghana. I don't want to see any white Europeans telling POC how to de-colonize. Is this not just another form of colonialism? Are they not colonizing de-colonial movements? And being flat out racist to POC witches and magic workers and polytheists in the name of their "anti-racist" images while they're doing it too. It's not even ironic, it is literally colonialism in spirit come to control us all in the 2020s. I REBUKE THIS.

Forgive my venting, but you getting that ask and and seeing asks on those anon witch blogs really set me off keziah. I'm glad you answered that ask the way that you did, because yes people do need to LEARN.

You know, it's got quite a lot of us fucked up, anon. It's got quite a lot of us fucked up, indeed. I appreciate you sharing your thoughts and perspective with me, and, yeah, it does kind of feel like they're colonizing decolonial movements, and that's a really good way of expressing that.

White history is not everyone's history.

A white person decided to speak on my ancestors (which, I mean, wtf? Is this what we're doing out here now?) in trying to talk shit. I won't share the post or user because they don't deserve the attention and I'm not interested in my name being tied to theirs in any way, shape, or form. I do, though, want to touch on some things quickly, because such a post does bring up some important points:

Firstly, it takes a certain kind of audacity and sense of entitlement to think you're in any position to talk on anyone else's ancestors, dictate anyone else's ancestry, or project your white history on other people's family trees or on their ancestor work.

Secondly, I feel like using the talking point "unless you're Indigenous/Native, you're the product of immigrants and your family immigrated here" really erases the fact that so many Black Americans are, actually, in the US due to their ancestors being taken from their homelands, brought forcibly across the world in chains, and enslaved. That's the root of how my Black ancestors came to the US, as is the case for so many others. That's not quite the same as being an immigrant, and the continued insistence that all non-Indigenous people are the product of immigration is a disgusting and willful act of erasure of Black history, of US history, and of the lived experiences of Black and Mixed Black POC. White history is not everyone's history.

As of late my anxiety has been really active and the worst part is that it's not unwarranted give the rapid decline of the US government. Something that has helped is reading accounts of resistance. One of the books I'm currently reading is Becoming Dangerous, which is a collection of essays from witches of different backgrounds.

The essays take on challenging subjects yet it does help there is a list of trigger warnings for each essay at the beginning of the book. I appreciate that many of the essays talk about Social Justice work in addition to ritual. Regardless if you identify as a witch I think there is a lot one can learn from these essays.
