#SelfLoveSunday Sending love and light to the entire diaspora and all the brothers and sisters who acknowledge our interconnectedness in the struggle. Anti- blackness is at the root of so many of our issues, internal and external. Never let anyone make you feel wrong, racist or unfair for loving yourself and your people and acknowledging the rich and unique history of your origin, regardless of your country of birth. #POCUnite #POCSolidarity #ProBlack #blackandbrown #blackandbrownunity #poc #woc
Mind #1
My sister always told me that someone around my age would die during the time of high school that would change my outlook on life. Time passed on, I graduated high school and no one passed, I felt relieved knowing that that didn’t happen to me, I was lucky and my sister was absolutely silly. Flash forward to now: freshmen in college, everything going well, and two weeks before I turn 19. Everything is going well. The phone rings, it’s my sister. “I have some bad news,” she starts. “Your friend was shot this morning by the police. He died at the hospital.” And just like that, my heart shattered. She had been right, I was not lucky. The very same boy I’d knew my whole life had been taken from this world by a policeman claiming that he warned him and shot him out of miscompliance. This did not justify the shooting, nor did it explain anything because he was unarmed, but it did do something. It showed to me that life could easily be stripped from you by those you grew up learning were there to protect you from danger, that is until they deem you to be the danger. It also showed me to cherish life and to pursue my dreams so that I could better the image of my community, even if its by a small margin. I am not writing this as a sympathy post, but as a promise and as a wakeup call to everyone who complains about the Black Lives Matter campaign. We are treated the same, nor are our actions held to the same degree, if a POC brother or sister comes up with a new technology, it will not be regarded as highly as someone who is not a POC. What I getting at is that we need to repair our tarnished image, no matter what because if not then we will be subject to this treatment for as long as we live. I am making a statement that as I am a small piece of this community, but my impact will be great.
"Stop begging white people to give us opportunities lets make our own"
I remember a time were i used to scoff at this statement, didn’t they know that white people have control of the main stream? And why do we have to wait, we are just as qualified as they are its just that they won’t acknowledge us.“
It took many years for me to understand this, and its the truth: white people wont share their privileges with us. Look , the names of Hollywood have put all the excuses to block minorities from the screen:
” calling for diversity is racist “ (How? You are overrepresented , you literally have it good how can seeing more poc bring you down?)
"You don’t deserve an award because you a minority ” ( That’s not what we are saying , we deserve an award because we are just as talented as you are, but all you ever do is award each others accomplishments and never look at deserving poc )
“Your not owed anything we don’t have to ”
( neither are you, your not the only group of people in the u.s, surprise surprise, right? we are not “owed” we deserve , we should be equal in getting the awards. )
Its so funny how our counterparts “don’t see color ” and “don’t we all bleed red” and how we always “pull the race card on everything ” but act like the Oscars is some stupid coincidence. I guess the judges were so color blind that they so happen to give awards to a lot of white people right?
This is a fine example of why we should make our own shit instead of waiting on white people to “hand out ” a couple of awards, because they only look our way when we annoy them to diversity or if we play a good part of the thug, immigrant/fob, the weird Asian person or the spicy latina , the savage native, the Indian store guy, the ghetto baby mama.
Because unlike having to beg for diversity we can finally make our stories that wont be neglected, we don’t have to always wait our turn , we will be appreciated, little children will finally be able to see their faces, we wont see stereotypical roles, we wont be default for white people and we wont have to see poc actors have to scavenge for work or be told that their not what white people are looking for while casting nothing but other white people.
People like Stacey Dash might not understand why we need this (mostly for reasons above ) but for the people who want change we need this.
She was just sitting there in an attempt to 'show what Muslims are really like' wearing a shirt that referenced PEACE and these assholes kindly escorted her ass out for absolutely no reason after verbally assaulting her. This is what respectability politics gets us. Nothing. Fuck coming in peace ma. See how they did you when you tried to join the team? Fuck the team. Buy and coach your own shit. I'm so heated she was treated that way but I can't believe she thought it would go down any other way. I'm honestly grateful they didn't attack her or something the way trump has been getting 'Patriots' fired up smh. I need Yall to know, black folk, gay folk, Muslim folk, ladies- there's nothing you can do as an individual to change the socializations that have been ingrained in the majority of people about you. Not wearing hoodies, hijabs, short skirts or being effeminate will not stop people from assuming black kids are thugs, Muslims are terrorists, women are 'asking for it' or all gay men are flamboyant. Sure you can live your life how you see fit in terms of what you deem 'respectable' but IT. CANT. KEEP. YOU. SAFE. Only changing the narrative and dismantling a system that thrives on the victimization and exploitation of marginalized groups can do that. And we need to build with one another to get there, not keep asking for a seat waaaaay in the back of somebody else's (kiddie) table. #dumptrump #islamophobia #muslimsolidarity #respectabilitypolitics #islam #pocunite
