Helloooooo! Jumping in here to say I'm so glad you guys are back. I found you for Mary & George and it's great to hear you discuss with PASSION the amazing HR. I love your takes and discussions. Its the chat I would love to have face to face, but I'm alone irl with my MM and WLW stories. I sit on the train on the way to work and literally - actually - laugh out loud and smile like a nutter.

I love all the wee things you notice that I notice too. Here's to Ilya's lips, Shane's freckles, every authentic hand gesture and head tilt. And the undersung female characters who are still knocking it out the park...Yuna, Jackie, Svetlana and Rose, I see you. (I think Rose/Svetlana fic might be on the way!)

Hi, @vmcgmidlifecrisis! After our fun talking Mary & George, I was excited to see that you're watching Heated Rivalry, and it makes me unreasonably happy to know you're taking us on the train with you and laughing along with us. 😄

There are so many things to notice, right? The text is rich, and the fandom is doing god's work by giffing everything and going rabid with character analysis. Konner sent me a thing this morning someone posted about Ilya gently moving Shane's hand out of the way before he lifts him onto the counter.

I don't have much to say in response to "genetic" and Ilya's research because that is brand new information that I have to cry about for a little while before I can properly engage with you. How dare. How dare you embody the spirit of what inspired the podcast.

Ok… I could write a NOVELLA about what I love about your Bridgerton podcast so far but I’ll attempt to stay focused.

First of all, your chemistry and contrasting interests make for a great discussion. During the Ep 3&4 cast I was genuinely howling while listening and talking back to you both as if we were in the same room!

I love Konner’s abbreviated recaps — so funny! I especially got a kick out of how much Rae was like WHO CARES THATS DUMB DONT EVEN TALK TO ME ABT BENEDICT EVERYTHING IS CHEAP! And then at the end you all started talking about her fascination with all things production and I was like Oooohhhhhh I see.

Because I tend to be more of a viewer like Konner. I expect little and just want to go on the (balloon) ride. I did notice some weird production-y looking things but nothing on the level you were talking about. Just more like is that green screen or I can tell that’s a styrofoam wall which I find distracting but I also forget about it as soon as there’s a zoom to Colin’s tortured face.

Anyway, I am totally digging Colin this season, and he’s always been my least favorite B boy. Now I know why. Because he was always sort of fake and boring — but that was the point. Anyway, I love the change once he kisses Pen. Because he’s so very smarmy up til then. After that he’s just a pathetic lovesick simp. A+ character development!

I am foaming at the mouth for Part 2 and I agree 💯 that it’s annoying to split the drop. It’s entirely because Netflix wants to force ppl to subscribe for 2 months. 🙄

Hi. Love listening to your show. Up front info...Im old and Scottish and know this history well-ish (school etc). I love hearing your responses to this show, scene by scene. I genuinely think the historical context changes a lot of what you will understand, so keep doing the reading. (Look up the side characters, they're fascinating.) My tuppence-worth?

1. I think NG's description is- Dark. Sexy. Sex. Not dark, sexy sex. If that makes sense?

2. George is NOT smart. He never really learns, he only feels. Mary is smart, and avoids letting herself feel (love Sandy too btw). Yet it is almost impossible to convey just how. much. power they end up with. They are buried beside kings.

3. The nation is in a big fucking mess. The monarchy is absolute and James writes a lot about the Divine Right of Kings. Violent movements are everywhere, Guy Fawkes tried to blow up parliament for example and religion is more divisive than ever. People are burned and beheaded and accused of being witches. James likes to play in the same way I read fic...escapism.

4. Lovely son Charles...when its his time...only King ever to get his head cut off.

Hello! Thank you so much for the ask, and we are so glad you're enjoying the show! Luckily Rae is our resident researcher/deep diver, so she will continue to look up broader context as we watch. (*A wild Rae appears* I'm impatiently waiting to watch and pod about the entire show before diving fully down the Wikipedia hole. Currently, I'm walking a very fine line of experiencing the series as a brand new story and searching out small bits of historical context to better understand its characters.)

That is a very good point, the breaking up of those words into three separate things, versus a funny little sentence does change the context. (I still maintain the marketing oversold the "sexy" part! :))

Oh, sweet boy George, he just wants peace and play like the King does, and doesn't want to learn the ins and outs of how to attain it and keep it. Buried beside kings! Go off, Mary. Love that for her.

Rae and I have talked off mic, or maybe on mic, (it all blends together) about how the King putting his head in the sand makes sense, we wouldn't want to deal with all that stuff either.

It's what The Cottage needed. It's what we needed to process The Cottage. What an episode; what a season of television. We're both still not over it.

The phone call scene was so them and all the things they are. Silly, hot, competitive, sexy, stupid, fun, and ultimately incredibly sweet when Shane made sure to clarify their relationship isn't just about the danger of being bad. Ugh. THEM.
