Hi! I'm about to go to bed, but the need to talk about podcasts is eternal so I have to rattle off a few. I listen to a handful of nonfiction podcasts as well, mostly about science education/mythbusting or engineering disasters (I'm in school to be an engineering technician so that stuff's interesting to me). Fiction podcasts I have listened to and loved (I think they're all horror genre):
TMA of course, extremely good but I think many Flondon fans know this
I Am In Eskew, which I honestly enjoyed even more than TMA and think about relistening to all the time. There's probably 0% chance you haven't already listened given your interests, but if you haven't, go in absolutely spoiler free and get ready to Experience :}
Alice Isn't Dead by the creator of Welcome to Nightvale, shortish road trip horror story with a really likeable main character
WTNV of course, I listen quite sporadically and haven't even gotten halfway through yet but I keep circling back through the years
Pseudopod - can't recc it enough, it's a horror short story showcase that reads a new short story every episode and has great narrators and commentators. It features a wide range of both classic horror and more modern stories from writers of a wide range of backgrounds, and is hosted often by Alasdair Stewart. It's my current personal favourite because I don't have much time for an ongoing plotline right now, but it's amazing for a short story fix.
I ALMOST FORGOT ABOUT WOLF 359. I need to relisten to that one too SO badly, I'm pretty sure I already have once but I need to go for it again. It is. So good. It did things to my brain. Ough I need to listen to that again.
I believe I listened to the first two? seasons of The White Vault, I remember enjoying it less once the face of the horror became known so to speak (without spoiling anything) but I really should give it a second chance in case it pulls out some new tricks later on. It was a fun listen for walking through the woods alone in the winter.
As far as to-listen list goes, I want to retry Malevolent in the future (listened to a couple eps and it seemed good but the plot was alas too fast paced for my current tired brain), and now I have The Tower to check out! I'm excited for that, I do love a short podcast. Thank you for the recommendation, and the chance to nerd out about the ones I already know and love :}
Oh yippee! I love talking about podcasts always also!!
I have listened to TMA! The first podcast I ever completely listened to... NOT the first podcast I ever listened to at all though. That honour goes to Night Vale, which is just. It truly is a wonderful podcast. I am up to I think about episode 100? But I am taking an extended break so that my brother can catch up and we can listen together (in theory. I also just have a *lot* of other podcasts to listen to)
I love Eskew!!!!! I got into it after listening to The Silt Verses (by the same creators), which you should definitely listen to. It is really, really, really good. Easily one of the best podcasts I have ever listened to. I really need to relisten actually.. both to eskew and tsv.
Wolf 359... it is truly such a good podcast. I only listened to it relatively recently? a few months ago I think, but I should have listened to it sooner!
The White Vault and Pseudopod (and malevolent also!) are ones that I have not checked out yet, though I have been meaning to.
and you are welcome!!! I always love both recommending + talking about podcasts. actually on that note I do have a couple more to recommend:
Hello From The Hallowoods is a show about the lives of those who survived the black rains, and who now live between the dark pines of the titular Hallowoods. It's a lovely podcast, and feels like WTNV if it was less comedy* and more horror. It is quite long, also like WTNV, so yea. about 200 episodes I think?
Shelterwood: A Suburban Gothic is. well. It's a podcast about a *really* messed up suburb. Like, really, really, really messed up. It's a fun place! If your definition of fun is "really, really horrible" It also has photos that bite you.
Red Valley is about freezing people so that they can on day be returned to life. It's about continuing, and how you can never go back. I finished it recently and I am still emotionally recovering from it. It's a really good podcast!!!
okay I just realised I went into a podcast recommending fugue state and forgot about Alice Isn't Dead entirely. I have not listened to it But! I have read the book. Which is not the same story but it is similiar. I need to listen to it though! One day..
