Bug of the Day
All my beetles have dandruff :-D
(Seriously though, pollen, WTF already????????)
Bug of the Day
This was obviously some kind of higher level discussion plus social distancing happening at the light the other night LOL.
[Clockwise, from top left: ground beetle (Carabidae family), Podabrus tricosta (also in close up below, because they look so fab!), Perlodid stonefly (prob. Isoperla sp.), and European snout beetle (Phyllobius oblongus).]
Bug of the Day
I always used to marvel at how many of these little beetles (Podabrus sp., prob. P. frater) could be found wandering around my moth sheets, until I realized that they are somewhat devious little predators on other insects...
From July 2019
Bug of the Day
An adorable and shy-looking soldier beetle, Podabrus brevicollis, at the black light last week.
