A very small sampling of the beetle diversity of the beautiful state of Maryland. Take this as proof that you don’t have to go to the Amazon rainforest to find incredible insects!
the smallest, fastest and stupidest looking local cantharids are these little cartoon alien looking things, Malthinus. despite being very shy creatures and barely bigger than a well-fed springtail, they are very easy to find during spring, practically poking their heads out of every nearby leaf. photographing said heads is a different story

Beetle ID - Lithuania:
Hello, yuss, this looks like a Red Soldier Beetle (Cantharis rufa), family Cantharidae. This is another one. I'm not 100% sure of the species, but I am fairly certain that it is in this soldier, beetle, genus.
