Probably not gonna be around much again this...
it’s especially glaring bc they’ve been spending more time than previous seasons exploring interpersonal relationships w/ the time skip and ppl grieving
Yeah, exactly! Like, the scene with Dick and Babs they included only had two purposes - to establish that Babs was Oracle now, and to show them in their relationship. They included Cassie’s phone call purely to show that she was in a relationship with Tim and that there were problems. I am having to block out a LOT of Superboy/Miss Martian stuff, lol, we saw Jefferson having a nice moment with his ex wife, scenes of Will and Artemis just being domestic with Lian (not that I think they’re in an actual relationship, just cohabitating pseudo-sibling style). There’s been a ton of slice of life moments showcasing all sorts of different relationships with every major character we’ve seen so far and a few of the lesser used ones, and its that specifically that’s making me troubled, that we haven’t seen any hint of same-gender romances or attraction yet. Especially as YJ’s narrative style (and that of Weismann in general) has ALWAYS been to frontload seasons with a lot of the quieter, foundational character work, because their plots pick up steam and grow in action and intensity the more the seasons progress, which leaves less and less room for non-plot related character moments.
Like, if the LGBTQ+ rep they’ve referenced ends up being say, Jason and Roy (Arsenal, the original and thus younger Roy), that I’ll be more okay with than if it ends up Bluepulse, because obviously they need time to even introduce Jason organically into the plot. I get that. But if its characters we’ve already seen or are already familiar with (and they’ve also made a point to specify that one of the characters we already know is LGBTQ+, which I mean, could be Roy, but if its not....), then like....insert cranky face emoji.
