rain
rain falls splashes down from leaves dripping, soaking, wet i stand below; i am alive
eyes turn skywards as the clouds break one last drop upon my cheek. now the sun smiles down

Poem 7: I Was Doomed
I was doomed to die on the day I was born
When people smiled at me, my fragile form
Those smiles I don’t understand why they are
As if blinded to daunting, looming scars.
I was doomed to hurt on the day I loved
Even though we swore oaths upon heavens above
One would be taken to leave another behind
Doomed years spent alone in time.
The end is a curse doomed on all beginnings
But few understand the life worth living
For there is more than just the entrance and exits
What matters most are the notes of the music.

Poem #7
I remember when I could colour with no care
Create green elephants and yellow skies
Draw blue trees and purple tigers
Just because I wanted to
I remember when there was no pressure for me to do anything
If I didn’t want to, I didn’t
When I couldn’t do something, I was given help
I was asked if I needed it
I remember when I felt free
When I could stand in the wind and feel like I was flying
When I would believe I was invincible with my stick sword at my waist
I remember being young
April 2023 Poem a Day Challenge #7
Wrote for a friend! I think I’m getting closer to feeling good about the writing! I spent some more time, actually doing a lot of rearranging this one. I think it could be more cohesive, but part of this challenge practice is to move on quickly, so, onto the next!

To Critiques, Non-Believers, Politicians, Journalists, and all other Sanctimonious Assholes
the hardest thing to say sometimes is
I Love You
in spite of every internal impulse to despise every inclination to throw white hot coals at your head, neck, and chest
I Love You
Wish I could convince you to stop what you are doing and make better decisions but I suppose you would tell me the same thing
We will do better. We will love better. Not because I need you or support your treachery
but…

Nothing but smiles, Let’s have some fun, Spread joy all over, The day has begun! Here’s a balloon to fill you with glee, This boy is as happy as he can be! A sticker to cheer you up, A little show from the pup, Songs play just for you, Take a candy or two, The sunlight shines in, Oh ew, Keep it dim, I’m kidding, That’s fine, The choice is not mine, The play time is over, Goodbye, Goodbye, The boy moves along, Smile still on his face, As he moves on through the halls, With a quickened pace, Hurry now, Go fast, Smile, Joy, Laughter, Gee, Keep up the energy, Won’t you? For me? Lips curled through the tears, Block all those fears, The blood is just cherry, The needles are fake, The pile of intestines are surely just cake, Now now, My dear, No sadness in here, You have to show the people how bright, The world is around us, Show us the light.
town park
the blocks crouch around
peering over the tops of the trees
trying to get a glimpse
of the mirror of water
barely rippling in the breeze
a small oasis
breathing
quietly
shielded
from the roads
