EXPECTED OUTPUT #4: Poem Analysis
Title: "Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night" ; a metaphorical title that imposes the brave encouragement to fulfill something before departing, a soft whisper that hopes to defy the inevitable, the death.
Mood and Tone: It must be noted that the author was going through his own father’s death as the poem was being written. His tone is serious as he talks about dying and becomes sorrowful towards the end.
Register Used:
- Informal register: It may appear like a formal register due to its lack of slang or colloquial words, but it features figurative language to deliver the emotions the author wants to express.
Speaker's whereabouts: It could be assumed that the author is right beside his father, with a silent prayer and hope that death will be defied, while picturing various scenes of people who fought death during critical times.
Audiences: At first, it seems that he was pertaining to general public with a story and a wish to tell. In the last stanza, it was revealed that he was talking to his father.
Translation: The poem talks about death for four kinds of men. The wise, the good, the wild, and the grave. All of these men face death and the speaker, having accepted it as an inevitable reality, encourages these men to face death with defiance.
Triggers: The poem is a villanelle because it has nineteen lines. These lines are divided among six stanzas. Five stanzas have three lines and one consists of four lines. The poem’s quatrain is its last stanza, wherein the narrator speaks to his dying father whose death weighs the most out of all men. Two refrains are also a distinct feature in villanelles. The poem’s refrains, “Rage, rage against the dying night” and the titular “Do not go gentle into the good night” are repeated interchangeably at the end of every stanza. This repetition shows that the speaker is adamant that one must not be so yielding towards death. The author makes use of “good night” as a euphemism. It is a phrase often used to bid someone to sleep but in the poem, the author uses “good night” to refer to death; eternal sleep.
Theme: The poem centers on the act dying rather than death itself. Throughout the poem, death was established as a natural and inevitable reality for all kinds of men. The choice lies in the manner in which one dies.
Purpose: The author urges men to challenge death rather than welcome it peacefully. Although the poem focuses on the act of dying, it is ultimately about fighting for life.

Poem Analysis: Fonda 1 by Marlon B. Guerrero
Poem Analysis by Nikko Marcos and Sheng Seiras
The poem Fonda 1 written by Marlon B. Guerrero is all about the night before the celebration of St. Clare feast. Fonda is a celebration where communities enjoy the different festive activities such as rave, parties, programs, social interaction and many more. Throughout this festive celebration, many teenagers tend to do things that can harm or cause trouble for them. The issues that has been dramatize in the text are the pre-marital sex and early pregnancy. It was portrayed by a teenage girl who is in flamed with love willing to disobey her mother’s advice or warning.
The 21st Century teenagers are filled with curiosity but sometimes when curiosity with misguidance can lead to conflicts and problems also. The poem reveals that some teenagers are immature and irresponsible in doing such things. They don’t think before they act. The teenagers can change the simple Fonda into a source of scandalous act and behaviors. Even visiting lads can be scheming filled with troublesome thoughts. Elders warns the young ones not to engage with immoral acts because there were once a product of this such acts. It can either affect you or sometimes your loved ones.

This teenage pregnancy and pre-marital sex issues make a generalization that teenagers nowadays needs more guidance and discipline. The issue affect the people who are innocent. In order or avoid these issues, one should follow the elders’ advice or warning.
