I'm gonna push my luck here with another misandry take.

It would bother me less that people are so afraid of the term "misandry" if they were also afraid of terms that have been similarly misused to undermine the causes that should've been using them.

I mean, this is just a common historical occurrence: right-wing and reactionary ideologies will use the terminology of progressives and then undermine those causes.

Like, Libertarians in the United States. They're not libertarian. And we all understand that, because libertarianism would be fundamentally opposed to the wants of free-market capitalism. Or, national socialists, who were not at all socialist and were just national. Or, RadFems who we understand to not actually be feminists, but rather just a mob of angry transphobes who hate men.

But somehow, when I talked about misandry all those months ago, one of the first things that I was told in response was "Can we call it something else? Misandry was used by some dipshit misogynists a while back."

And like, I really don't even care that much. It's fine if we want to call it "Androphobia"/"Transandrophobia" but like...I mean, come on. We aren't afraid of other terms that were misused historically by shitty bigots. Why do we care about this one especially?
