The door opened. Urbosa froze. The long, slender silhouette of Ruby's shadow betrayed her presence - half blessing, half curse. If Ruby was going to kill her, she would have done it long before now, and she would have known better than to just open the damn door.

The curse? Urbosa's blouse hung halfway off the door, far out of even her grasp. impossible to run for. The sheets beneath her were folded too tight to wrap around herself, and if she'd made a dive for the floor, it would have been even more embarrassing than letting the woman see her failure.

Her failure was more more embarrassing than a lack of modesty. If that had been her worry, most of it was assuaged by her bra, which was still firmly clipped behind her. No, what made ice run through her veins instead of blood was the ugly smattering of bullet scars on her left shoulder. They'd healed over years ago, but not well. Against her tawny brown skin, they flared like red welts, uneven and scattered across the blade.

Without meaning to, she held up a hand as if to cover them, even if she knew she couldn't reach that area of her back. Nostrils flared, but she didn't turn around. There were other scars she didn't mind being on display - the blade mark across her blade, a stab wound suckered on her stomach, but those were different.

She won those.

After a moment of cold silence, she finally broke the air -

"I'll be ready in a minute, Mz. Lark."
