A Million Ways to Battle: A look on how we battle in Pokemon Philippines

Pokémon Community in the Philippines is no different from the other countries. The development of the Pokémon Philippines (Pkmn-PH) community has been around since the early 2000s and has continued to rise in time. The Pkmn-PH community rises with the help of social media and events that cater to the competitive spirit between the players of VGC (Video Game Championship) and TCG (Trading Card Game) and the love of fans for the Pokémon franchise.
There are numerous VGC tournaments held in the span of a year (on-site and online) and have continued to inflame the competitive spirit of Filipino Pokémon players. The Pokémon ΩR/αS launch day meet up event (ORAS NA!) held on November 22, 2014 in SM Megatrade Conference Center, SM Megamall was one of the biggest event organized by Pkmn-PH and had over 80 participants in the VGC tournament and several Pokémon fans that joined in the celebration of the latest release in the Pokémon franchise.

There are also monthly tournaments being held on Courtside Robinsons Galleria that cater both VGC and TCG. The TCG community has already been established and has several tournaments for years and that the VGC community is catching up and has shown that it can become one of the premier tournaments in the Philippine setting. The most recent VGC tournament was held last April 26, 2015 had 39 participants and had intense VGC battling. The number of participants was more than expected due to the rivalry of Pokémon games to Monster Hunter recently. The “HYPE” is truly back seeing how many players would enjoy the flames of Pokémon competitive battling.
Pokémon VGC battles have truly been crazy and intense. Different people would showcase their own unique play style and their own shenanigans and tricks. It is advantageous that a surprise attack is pulled off. Expect the unexpected. Most VGC players tend to stick with the Meta and try to copy some teams that the other players usually use in tournaments that would work. I believe that most Filipino VGC players are different. In most tournaments, we would see that there are a lot of new tricks being showcased from different players. The Meta is probably the safest way to win battles, yet put a little shenanigan with the Meta and it will probably be more effective. Everyone expects the Meta and you can use that to your advantage. It is fun to see different Pokémons are being utilized in unique and crazy ways and that makes VGC battles more interesting and fun to watch.

Here are some of my battles that would show how crazy the Pokémon competition is:

Bring out those Rain teams. Grab those anti-meta Pokémons. Fear the Shuckle. Play with hax. Make a different build for that Landorus-T. Change your move-sets. Create a new Meta.
Please do showcase your skills and your tricks in VGC competition. Show off your moves and your teams. Share your awesome and crazy battles. You’ll never know the champion in you if you don’t try. Let the world know how good the Filipino Pokémon players are.
