After much… this is my Serena expression board (POST-Pokemon XYZ)

I’m not fully sure how I got into this hole, but I’m here now from what I can understand (there’s just not enough Serena fanart in my opinion so I’m fulfilling that dream)

Pokémon XY is how I got introduced to Pokemon so Serena is my Kpop bias.

In detail, I just really like her character and compassionate nature as she strives to figure out who she wants to be and eventually grows into a person who brings joy and encouragement.
When working on her facial expressions, I took reference from Amity (ToH), Connie (SU), Zelda (Botw), and Uraraka (BNHA) as they’re all characters who have gone through a journey of self discovery in the adversity of self doubt and came out of it a kinder and more confident person overall.
(Well I’m not 100% sure about Zelda in that department, but she does have an elegant kind of nature)
(Amity and Connie additionally have a ray of sunshine good intentioned love interest in need of therapy where each partner can balance each other out so that was an added bonus)
What really inspired me to make this board was because of a really incredible fanfic I read “Paldea Saga: Treasures and Trials” by Pocketbook (Ao3). I really liked this fic as it added onto the characters as they grew into the social and political tribulations of ‘growing up’ without making them feel like they’re growing jaded. Serena is still very sweet and compassionate to people and pokemon, but she is definetly more grounded and aware of toxic waters she is going to have to face in the entertainment profession. I also registered her to be more (socially) introspective based on some of the conversations she’s had with Ash in this story. There’s a lot I want to gush about, it’s just really good.

I kinda got fed up when choosing outfit colors in the end. Serena is actually the first blonde person I’ve dressed and colored so it was… definitely a trial. I’m not fully happy with it but I’ll just edit it with time.
