pokemonstadium2 replied to your post “god I truly do wish the creators of Dream Daddy would shut the fuck up...”
what're they sayin?!
just stuff like “we didn’t want to have them talk about their sexualities because we wanted a fantastical world where it’s just not really discussed” and “we didn’t talk much about how Joseph’s sexuality relates to his religion because it’s ~been done~ “ with the bonus of: “Also, neither Vernon nor I being gay men, we didn't feel like we had the authority to tell that kind of story.” (which, she’s got a point there but...). there’s also Brian’s route being the way it is because of ~toxic masculinity~ (...okay) and they use the q word a whole lot, instead of just saying it’s a gay dad game... idk it wasn’t sitting right with me, and they kept saying they reached out to their q friends and I’m like, how about any gay or bi men, did you talk to any of them?
like I wanna say, at least they’re admitting they could have done a bit more with some things, but on the other hand, I’m like. why??? if you’re so afraid of having these characters talk about their sexualities or discuss how one’s religion might affect it and so on, why even bother writing this? why not spend more time and reach out to people who have lived these experiences and could help with them? it all is just so clear why the game is so shallow, because they didn’t have gay men writing and were too afraid to like commit to anything. and the interviewer says “I've seen some people say they feel like Dream Daddy takes a sort of straight look at a collection of queer stories and topics.“ and considering the game pretty much punishes you in the two routes that you have sex, I’m like... yeah, true.
they want to talk about telling a more ~complex story but each dad has only three dates and they all play out the same way with the exception of Robert, that’s not very complex. the interview is here and I’m just now noticing it’s from nearly a month ago now lmao, and while it’s not as bad as that other interview they gave where they shamed people for trying to break up Mary and Joseph and said “saying the right things to get people to like you is what sociopaths do”, it still didn’t really sit right with me and I just wish I hadn’t spent $15 on it lmao
@pokemonstadium2 replied to your post “i have no idea if its a regionalism or not but i love to refer to...”
i am not that far from you and this is like so far out of the realm of possibility for me i struggle to even read the words
i dont think it’s a regionalism then so much as it is the way my siblings and i talk to each other
for example, my brother used to refer to me as “dickweed” all the time which is a standard rude older brother nickname but then my mom would get mad so he just kept abbreviating it
dickweed > d.w. > doubles
now he calls me doubles
