This is your Commission for the Win a Commission Contest! Enjoy your Poki Draco!
Alcohol markers and bold colours are my favourite things. Have some yugioh monsters! (Some are better than others, but how will I get better if I don’t show the good and the bad, right? 😂)
Poki Draco from Yu-Gi-Oh! + Dragonite from Pokémon!
A new mini-box is coming to Duel Links, and so is the D.D. Water Tower! I wonder if the monsters we see will be just as adorable as the Fire Tower’s Poki Draco XD
Poki Draco ———————————————— When this card is Normal Summoned: You can add 1 "Poki Draco" from your Deck to your hand. ———————————————— Can Be Found In: Generation Force (GENF-EN031)
Not every card needs a gamebreaking effect to stand out. The simplest effects can provide lots of uses under the right management, going from assisting setups to having a flexible usability during the Duel. While might not stand out as some of the most powerful and/or popular cards available, their purpose won't be overshadowed when they can move Decks forward with their possible uses.
"Poki Draco" is a small monster which doesn't stand out neither in stats or a powerful effect, but can become quite helpful in several fields with its basic ability. When "Poki Draco" is Normal Summoned, we are allowed to look for a new copy of itself in our Deck to add in our hand. In a time where Special Summons are the norm "Poki Draco" might not seem that overwhelming, but has several advantages and setups to work arround despite its underdog position compared to more prominent mechanics.
Unfortunately if we want to work arround its effect, "Poki Draco" can't depend on many cards in early game to be available as soon as possible. Obviously copies of itself will become the main method to look for "Poki Draco", thinning our Deck in the process as well assuring we have a second or third one ready to play later on. The alternative comes from "Dread Dragon" own defeat, letting us look for the first "Poki Draco" so we can start working arround its effect as soon as possible. Things completely turn arround when "Poki Draco" is in the Graveyard as is easily revived by monsters such as "Debris Dragon", "Crane Crane", and "Brotherhood of the Fire Fist - Spirit" to work as materials of bigger summons together. Alternatively "Rekindling" let us revive up to three "Poki Draco" along other FIRE monsters, become useful to swarm the field with several materials at once in late game.
The purpose of "Poki Draco" highly depends of the Deck is working along with. It can easily play as a card to thin our Deck as we get a new copy each turn, while cards like "Creature Swap" and "Mystic Box" will deal with opponent monsters by trading it away. "Double Summon" becomes pretty useful arround this monster, letting us summon two "Poki Draco" in the same turn while keeping the third copy in our hand. A well known use arround this monster is becoming an immediate cost for the arrival of "Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon", summoning itself by banishing a Dragon. Thanks to the constant pressence of "Poki Draco" in our hand, "Koa'ki Meiru Drago" can stay alive on its own as shuts down LIGHT and DARK Special Summons as long as possible. As mentioned before, "Poki Draco" obtains great support of revival effects so can summon bigger monsters together such as "Exploder Dragonwing" or "Brotherhood of the Fire Fist - Lion Emperor" among many others, as well "Flamvell Firedog" constantly Special Summoning it back each time battles a monster. Finally and once all copies of "Poki Draco" ran out of options, they can be used along "Dragon's Mirror" to be banished and summon a monster such as "Five-Headed Dragon" with no many problems.
"Poki Draco" is a very interesting monster. Is not that remarkable compared to today's standards, yet provides lots of uses thanks to its low stats and ability. Obtaining copies of itself assures that we have a "Poki Draco" ready for any purpose almost every turn, in most cases to assist us with the arrival of bigger monsters. The main problem is not being a slow effect since can be managed properly regardless, but rather the chances of drawing its own copies before we can search for them. Besides that small risk and the fact that will mainly become useful supporting other cards and effects, "Poki Draco" has a lot of potential to work with from early to late game.
Personal Rating: B+
+ Searches a copy of itself when Normal Summoned + Various setups and support to work along with from early to late game
- Its low stats makes it only useful arround other cards - We might end drawing its copies before we have a chance to use its effect - Might seem slow in a Special Summon dominant game
I beat the D.D. Tower and got Gold, a rare card, and a Poki Draco Icon! :D Go Yugi! I also got a shot of the summit’s background.
D.D. Guide: Duelist. This is the summit of the tower. The D.D. Tower has been conquered by your hands. If you wish, you may continue to venture through the tower. As this tower will fulfill your desires...
Here’s some Duel Links news about the new Box and an upcoming update! If it’s a GX world like a lot of people think I wonder if we’ll be able to take the DM characters to that world, or if we’ll have to use GX-only characters. (Since GX used some original series characters it’s hard to say!) I also am really close to scaling that tower! :D
