for example, there is an oppressed youth whose part of a street organization (commonly referred to as a gang) who is currently in some sort of detention facility 'for their own good' and their life experiences already include a lot of violence, drive-by's, police violence, domestic violence etc...
they want to become a police officer. is this surprising? not to me! violence is completely disempowered, shamed and attacked in order to preserve authority. the only way violence is recognized as a valid experience is the violence legitimized either via policing or the military or through sport. think about it, our society is sick elevating specialized sectors of society who are permitted to be violent.
as so called 'activists' to ask that person to ignore and deplore violence is to ask them to negate their experience in favor of a political agenda that already ignores the violence of the state. instead of them joining the army and the police, why not make space for them to join the resistance? (which would mean taking it out of the hands of these pacifist apologists) i don't want rampant violence, what i do want is to stop negating the experiences of the people already experiencing violence.
