Modern Polin AU where Colin Bridgerton is a Huntr/x fan and Penelope Featherington is a Saja Boys fan.

This is for @enterthepolinverse 2025 Week 2: Modern Era/AUs.

This is inspired by the following:

- my OBSESSION with K-pop Demon Hunters, including listening to the soundtrack on repeat.

- a mutual's open questions about Polin on what we think Polin's favourite things are in the modern era.

- Luke Newton going to some concert with Antonia based from their IG stories (I think it's Noah Kahan according to fans).

All of these combined, I thought "why not do a Polin x K-pop Demon Hunters crossover?" So I did! :)))

The biggest challenge for me is drawing humans. It took me at least two (2) hours to draw one human. My Kanthony and Zutara drawing for Kanthony Week is my first one to draw humans and it took me at least thirteen (13) hours to complete. Oh and here's the drawing for reference:

However, I can say that I'm proud of what I drew. It's not perfect (I'm still a novice artist), but I'm happy how it turned out.

For inspirations, I asked my Bridgerton Threads community to provide me their favourite looks on Nicola Coughlan and Luke Newton and they did not disappoint! I've got some good food! I used some of their pics to draw them here. I'll also use them to draw Pokemon and the humans I nicknamed after but that's for another story to tell...

Anyway, my inspirations for Luke Newton are here, alongside using Katara's eyes (she's from Avatar the Last Airbender) as reference to his eyes, as... Well... Both Luke and Katara have similar eye colour. 🤭 Also, I'm a sucker with Luke wearing glasses (as a glasses wearers myself). 🤓

I've made Colin as a Huntr/x fan because my headcanon believes Colin likes them, not that they're pretty but because their songs resonates with him. For the outfits, I reference it from Luke's photoshoot outfit, the T-shirt from the Netflix Shop and light stick from the designs the fans use.

I've made Penelope as a Saja Boys fan because my headcanon believes that Pen likes their catchy songs, finds them attractive and may have taken her soul. 😏 I know that Colin will get jealous of these men for taking Pen's attention away from him. :)) The outfits are also from the Netflix Shop and from fans' design for the light stick.

I also made Pen cuddle Derpy Tiger as a plush, with modifications. The plush from the Netflix Shop is not appealing, so I modify it as a huggable plushie. And let's not forget Sussie Magpie on top of its head as there are no official plushies for the bird. Derpy Tiger and Sussie Magpie are a duo and should not be separated! 😤

I drew Colin and Pen with the correct height difference. I hope it fits the quintessential Polin Height Difference™. I use these as references.

The background colour is inspired by the album cover on Spotify/YouTube Music, so I implemented it there. And yes, I did listen to the KDH soundtrack on repeat while drawing; I started to hallucinate that Nic and Luke are singing those songs. 🤭

I believe Polin will sing all the K-pop Demon Hunters songs, with Free as their favourite song to sing as a duo because it's related to their relationship!

(Fun fact: Nicola Coughlan is currently in an animation film [Goat] produced by Sony Pictures Animation, well-known for producing Spiderverse movies and... K-pop Demon Hunters!!! I'll be ecstatic if she sings the soundtrack! 😆)

All Anthony Bridgerton wanted to do was to turn the highly acclaimed adventure romance trilogy of the decade, “The Sword and the Heart,” into a cinematic masterpiece. However, that task proved to be quite challenging when his leading actress, Kate Sharma, turned out to be the most unbearable woman he had ever encountered.

And perhaps, to make matters worse, when Colin and his so-called platonic friend Penelope Featherington started displaying such intense chemistry both on and off screen, fans started demanding a revision of the original story.

Now let's begin:

First of all... AHHH!!! I'm just a novice artist and I'm just drawing for fun, but this is my first time collaborating with another artist! I'm hyperventilating! It is an honour collaborating with Hypo and I had fun! 😆

Now back to my explanation and my side of the story. This is how it all started...

When Hypo announced an open collaboration on BlueSky for anyone wanting to collab with them on doing artworks for Enter the Polinverse event, I was the first one to volunteer as tribute. Even though I'm very good at drawing Pokemon, I thought I wanted to give it a fair go and have a chance. Fortunately, Hypo was enthusiastic about collaborating with me. :)))

We both decided to do Pokemon themes, as both of us had fond memories of the Pokemon anime. We brainstormed on what scenes that would suit anything Polin related. When Hypo suggested this nostalgic scene below, when Ash let go of Butterfree, his first Pokemon, I immediately agreed with them! So we began starting it.

The episode is called "Bye Bye Butterfree" from the Pokemon OG series if you're curious.

So from my side of the drawing, I drew both Butterfree as Colin and Penelope. I was considering S2 outfits, as Hypo and I liked S2 Polin during the pond scene, but we decided on S1 outfits as... well... Butterfree are bald. 🤭

For Penelope, I decided on this dress below because it has butterflies on it, including a tiara. Also, since she's also a Butterfree, it would be more iconic to add butterflies on a Butterfree. Additionally, Hypo suggested that it'll be a good idea to make her shorter to coincide the quintessential Polin height difference, but have the same wing size as Colin. I saw the appeal to it and adapted it for my drawing, which was so adorable I understood their vision.

For Pen's dress, I drew butterflies on it with inspirations from Australian Aboriginal artworks. I wanted to do it to acknowledge the Traditional Owners of Country throughout Australia, as a second gen Vietnamese-Australian living on their land where I reside, and pay my respects to the Elders and the Australian indigenous community past and present. I also thought it'll be awesome to experiment art styles. :)) I have included a bee on her necklace, to show her acceptance as Colin's mate.

For Colin, I drew him similar to Ash's Butterfree, and included this S1 outfit below. Since Pen's outfit was from S1, why not do the same for Colin? He does look distinguished wearing that outfit haha. I also included a fob chain with a combo of a butterfly and bee, signifying the combined families between Bridgerton (bee) and Featherington (butterfly).

After that, I completed half of the work, while Hypo did their magic.

They decided to do Eloise as Ash Ketchum, as she is letting go of her brother/partner with his mate so they can be together. I think they'll tell their side of the story. :))

Hypo and I wanted to show nostalgia and a core memory to Polin fans who are familiar with the Pokemon series. So I hope our artwork did provide a sense of childhood to you guys!

Bridgerton in a Pokemon World: Polin Family. 🌙

With Colin "Umbreon" Bridgerton and Penelope "Jigglypuff" Bridgerton-Featherington returning to the scene. Alongside their children - "Teddiursa" Bridgerton, Lord Featherington, and Agatha "Skitty" Bridgerton - and their loyal maid and friend, Rae "Zygarde".

When the announcement for Enter the Polinverse occurred, I immediately participated and started planning.

I definitely want to see Colin and Pen happily married and being with their family. Also, choosing Pokemon for their children is quite easy to be honest. The reason: they are all moon related! 🌕 Colin is an Umbreon when Eevee evolves at night, and Penelope is a Jigglypuff that is round, has a hidden persona/talent and evolves via a moon stone. Also Polin always encounter many events together at night. :))

Colin and Pen wear their waistcoat and shawl, respectively, with matching design; they are inspired on Pen's S4 dress below, which... Well... I drew quite poorly. 😅

I also include a last minute addition to this drawing: Rae. The green little Pokemon is a Zygarde; it is a Legendary Pokemon that controls the ecosystem. It is a chaperone and guardian for the Polin family. After watching Pokemon XYZ series and being a fan of Squishy the Zygarde, I thought I'll include Zygarde but as Polin's trustworthy maid and friend, like Rae.

For Baby Lord Featherington, I made him as a Teddiursa, to coincide the moon theme. I believe Teddiursa would be a suitable Pokemon to lead the Featherington Family once it grows up or evolves, but leading with love, kindness, emotional intelligence and fairness, just like his parents!

Both Baby Lord Featherington and Colin have a fob chain, with a butterfly and bee on a sapphire, and a crescent moon attached underneath; it symbolises the combined families of Featherington (🦋) and Bridgerton (🐝) in one, with sapphire blue as Bridgerton blue; the moon is obviously the Polin family as they are all moon-themed.

As for Agatha, I wanted to include her since she is a prominent eldest daughter of Colin and Pen in the book. Besides, I really want Colin to be a girl dad. 🥹 I made Agatha as a Skitty because of a convo with a Polin and Pokemon fan about Skitty as Pen, and that Skitty evolves into Delcatty via a moon stone, just like her mother! I believe Agatha would be clever, slightly cynical, friendly and supportive, also like her parents. I also include the butterfly, bee and the crescent moon on her coat, for the same reason.

Both of the children's outfits are inspired by Colin and his sister's costumes when they were kids, during a flashback when Edmund died.

I know you're gonna ask: how does an Umbreon and Jigglypuff breed two different Pokemon?! No idea. :))) I just drew them as if Polin have children and they have their own Pokemon partners.

The moon is an important symbol in my Vietnamese culture. Many Vietnamese fairy tale stories about the moon, using the Lunisolar Calendar and many moon-related festivities and events are part of our culture. So I want to include moon themes for Polin, because of their deep connections at night and adding a little touch of my cultural identity. :)))

For the background, I just included Aubrey Hall, as they are having a Bridgerton reunion! Drawing buildings and still life are not my forte, but I did my best! 😁 I also included a bit of Ecruteak City vibes from the Pokemon series, with the mountain as a background. Finally, I included those purple flowers called large-flower wood-sorrel (Oxalis purpurea), which are growing in every grassy terrain, even in my backyard. They are pretty harmless and tough even when stepped on, so I just include them to add colour on the grass. 🤭
