'Stop making UiTM political fodder'
SHAH ALAM, May 23:
The Alumni Association of UiTM Malaysia today launched a special declaration urging all parties to cease using the university as political fodder.
Its secretary-general, Shukri Ishak, said “Deklarasi Shah Alam: Sumpah Anak Pribumi” (Shah Alam Declaration: The Vow of the Sons of the Soil) came about following the action of several irresponsible parties to rattle the university’s position.
He said the university, which had produced the largest number of Malay and Bumiputera graduates over the past 58 years, was now frequently being used as political fodder by politicians for their own agenda.
“We launched the declaration as a reminder to everyone that we will oppose any party which tries to question and shake UiTM’s position and in fact considers them as traitors and enemies of the country.”
Asked if the declaration was made over the statement by DAP candidate in the Teluk Intan by-election, Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud, who was vocal in questioning UiTM’s position, Shukri said it covered all levels of society.
“Dyana Sofya is only the most recent case while there have been many others who have tried to shake UiTM’s dignity and use it for their political agenda.”
He said the declaration should also be used as reference for the more than 570,000 UiTM alumni nationwide to protect the dignity of the university.
