Pot with Cabbage and Carrot, oils, 18x24, 2023, DoN
Yesterday I completed a painting course at Polk Museum of Art focussed on still life. For the last painting we were assigned to create our own set up. I recalled a favorite painting at the Barnes Foundation, Still Life with Copper Pot, Cabbage, Pestle, and Stove by Jean-Siméon Chardin, painted between 1732 and 1740. I didn't try to copy the painting but emulate the elements of Chardin's work which involved connecting circular forms. I enjoyed the class very much, making new friends, and working with oils again. Plus shopping for new supplies. It felt good.
