The pollo maligno is a menacing spirit from Colombian folklore. Described as an enormous hen, its name literally translates as "evil chicken."
The pollo maligno haunts lonely roads, using its unique cry to draw in travelers. When they come close enough, it will eat them. It has also been said that the pollo maligno will attack anyone who gambles, drinks or even jokes, as it disapproves of these activities. Praying to Saint Miguel nine times will apparently banish the spirit.
