COWARDICE  IN THE MIDST OF BEING SCOLDED WOULDN’T HAVE BEEN SURPRISING,    the  subtle  twitching of his expression leaving sebek wondering if he might have dug too deep in on someone of a higher standing than himself.    however,    justice  has no age limit  &  when it came to  which matters  would precede his own master’s safety,   it was  much  more efficient to  snuff  out  poor  behavior at the source than to allow it to go without a second - thought.    for that,   he would have to  drop  the notion of formality;   being unsightly  to his seniors could be a poor look,    but it did not change that  what he was doing was for the  other’s own good.   straightening him out before his  immortality  led him astray,    to think that he was so benevolent to do such a favor.   

forgetting their surroundings once he was started,    his  tone  of voice would have been enough to leave any student’s witnessing the scene cringing.    if there was one thing that he truly excelled at,   it was  projecting  his voice in a manner that  ensured  he was  understood with the utmost  clarity    —   given that his audience was looking to listen to what he had to say.    the apology does not look  well - received  on first glance.   eyebrows  furrowed,    there is no reason that someone would feel remorseful for something that was  clearly  done with purpose.    beady eyes  watch with expectancy for the  rest of his tale,   hoping that he truly has something impressive to bring to the table.   if this story ended up being a waste of his time,   simply prattling on to try  &  drag his attention from the topic at hand,   it would  not  succeed  —   unless  he was able to appeal to sebek’s much more  gullible  side.   strict at heart,   but viable to believe most anything that was said;   it did not mean he wasn’t ignorant of  bad will,   but he was  horrid  at deciphering in which cases someone was  trying to trick  him,    &  which they were speaking to him with honesty.   

“   BRIBERY  is an interesting tactic indeed.   ”    lingering irritation  still plagues his tone,   unwilling to let go off their last encounter just yet.   “  have  you thought of  doing your work on time.   arriving punctually.  considering  extra credit activities?   there are much more  honorable  options to remedy your issues,   but if you  are  really so pathetic,  then i shall  dedicate  myself to helping you.    only for this ONE DAY.   that way,   you do not need to force yourself down the path of deviant behavior to find righteousness.   ”

“I didn’t realize you were - maybe we should start again. I’m [name].”

Ilam mentally facepalmed having just threatened one the handlers to the Malleus Draconia. In his defense, Sebek was much larger than him — getting through these crowded hallways at the end of the day always proved to be a struggle, and Ilam was already fed up with it.

THE FEELING OF HANDS ON HIS BACK,   trying to  push  him out of the way is almost  laughable.   they were in the midst of the  hallway,   during a busy period  &  someone was trying to  shove  him to the side?    an  honorable choice,    but perhaps a foolish one.  a stickler to the  rules,   especially ones that involve how to act  —  no  matter  the hypocrisy that comes with a  lecture from a man who has  yet  to master the art of an  inside voice,   he would not allow such  poor manners  to go without reprimanding.    turning to face the culprit,   arms crossed over his  chest  with a rather disapproving  look  on his face;  he was surprised to see  not  a fellow face from the entrance ceremony,    but  an upperclassman instead.    the fact that he would not know how to  handle  himself better comes as a disappointment,  expecting  better  of those who were intended to  set an example,  so to speak. 

the other is  quick  to backpedal,   sebek is unable to pinpoint the  exact  moment that realization sinks in deep,   but once it does  his  tone makes a  swift change.   “ start again  and  forget your misconduct?   should it be so simple,  even if you are an upperclassman?   one would think you were aware of  hallway etiquette.   SHOVING IS FORBIDDEN,   it will not get you anywhere  quicker,   it will merely cause inconvenience to those around you.  to think that you did not know who you were  setting  your hands on,  you are  quite  lucky that i was not someone of higher importance   —   ilam. "    the implications of  just  who was of higher importance than himself should have been obvious.   a school of such high prestige  &   the majority of it’s students did not know how to  orderly  walk a hallway,   it was for shame.    to think that this was the grounds that his young master walked each day to  attend classes,   all this time without anyone at his side.   the  horrors  of what could have possibly occurred in those years,   he couldn’t bear the thought of it.   

once his lecture was finished,   his  shoulders  sink the tiniest amount,   willing to let up only for the moment.    there is no shame in  digging  into someone who is acting unruly,    &  for that he is unapologetic.    however   —    not  the ideal way to meet one of his upperclassmen.   his respect for those that are  deemed undeserving  is slim,   only once he feels that they had  truly  proven themselves to him,   then will he give his unyielding adoration.    ilam had been  unlucky  enough to start off on the  wrong  foot with diasomnia’s freshman.   “  let’s  start this way instead,   to where  do you need to be in such a rush?  you must have a  good reason  for such valiant effort,   if your use of this hall is  beyond  my own.  "

❈ rioting roomate!

THIS WAS HORRIBLE. Being forcefully evacuated from his warm, cozy dorm ( or, at least, previously warm and cozy ) was not on his list of things he wanted to today, much less be huddled up in Ramshackle with the rest of the campus. Spiders were everywhere.

There's a sign in the middle of the common room asking to not being insecticides in the room. Who could've put that up?

“ Oh, give me a break. ” Ilam groans, once he's settled in, to one of the Savanaclaws.

“I just saw a spider on my bed and if you don’t handle it right now, I’m gonna permanently sleep in YOUR bed.” He wasn't serious, of course, but man was his patience for all the resident creepy-crawlys growing thin.

As ticked off as he is, Ilam still tries to manage a cooperative persona, if nothing else. “ You trying to help me get rid of 'em? This is a big place, and I won't do it by myself. ”

TRUTHFULLY,  what happened to savanaclaw was an  improvement  in his eyes.  having to leave the snow - covered dorm,  right when the temperature felt right,  it was disappointing.  being stuffed into a dorm with a handful of other students,  all from varying groups  &  grades,  ones that didn’t necessarily get along with one another;  it was more trouble than it seemed worth.   the actual  state  ramshackle was in was no concern of his,  the home that jack came from was  nothing fancy  in itself.  only thing he had some complaints about?   the dust.  every time he would leave the comfort of the room  specifically  cleaned not to assault his nose,  he would find himself sneezing.  

the complaints coming from one of the scarabia students were of little interest to him;  if there was one thing they’d heard en masse this  last month,  it was complaints.  the building had a fair share of dirt,  ghosts,  rickety furniture,   and  bugs.   all of which were to be expected with the fact that it wasn’t intended to be inhabited.  the prefect had cleaned out what they could,  fairly well too  —  he could give credit where it was due.  however,  shoving another dozen  plus  students into the building was not ideal;  all of the rooms that were previously  sealed  shut,  not intended to be used were now kicking up dust  &  grime where they weren’t previously.  on top of that,  the winter chill wasn’t particularly appealing in a building that had no means of heating,  aside from the fire place in the common’s room.  

giving him a sidelong glance,  he wasn’t  particularly  interested in playing pest control for the entirety of the dorm.  his own room,  they managed to keep under control.  bugs weren’t a  huge  fear of his.  in fact,  he wasn’t scared of them at all.  unappealing at the best,  but picking one up wasn’t above him.  “ how come you sound like you got some kind of  plan? ”  —  more importantly,  he wanted to know  why was he the guy picked out to help with it.   maybe he was helpful towards  ruggie,  but that wasn’t a kindness he  willingly  extended towards others;  more like a role that he fell into before he realized that he was filling the shoes.   

“ i’m not lookin’ for no more roommates,  so start talkin’. ”
