Willie Mays holds trophies presented to him before the start of a twin bill with the Chicago Cubs at the Polo Grounds, June 5, 1955. The statuette named Mays as the Most Valuable Player in the National League the previous year. The plaque was given by the Baseball Writers Association. The silver bat was presented by the Hillerick Bradsby bat company in recognition Willie's .345 batting average, which topped the league.
