so I'm halfway through Pleasantville (after putting it off for too long) and I'm thinking to myself now that we're in the era of White Stereotypes nostalgializing the 50s that I grew up on reruns of the Addams Family and the aforementioned Jimmy Neutron aesthetic and the Googie-ness of the Powerpuff Girls and Johnny Bravo and Meet the Robinsons and Kim Possible (man, a lot of stuff from the '90s and '00s had '50s influence) - also learned about what race riots, the Civil Rights Movement and discrimination are at 3-3 and a half (only Black kid in school who cried at the Mississippi Burning movie to the point where they had to send a note home, asking "why would X happen?" in regards to the Holocaust/Hitler's mindset) I'm really kind of aggravated at both the people who idealize it to the point where they think NOTHING bad happened then - which is how we ended up here - and people who think that the decade has nothing going for it positively.
I don't know, I'm just probably nostalgia-blind about nostalgia-blindness and annoyed at the comments underneath the movie (it's free on Youtube) saying they wouldn't change shit about the in-universe show because they think that was perfect and American.
