Next time I decide I want to try something new regarding a Breyer custom with mohair, remind me to try it on a larger model than a 1:32 Stablemate. A while back I decided I wanted to create a polo pony with a haired tail that had the sides of the upper part "shaved", and was then braided and wrapped like a real polo pony. But for some reason I decided it would be easier on the smallest scale I customize, and picked Seabiscuit, my favorite Stablemate-scale thoroughbred.
As you can see, it worked. But it would have been a LOT easier braiding a 1:9 scale Traditional model, rather than this teensy little thing. The red electrical tape worked really well for the tail wraps, and I left it unglued so if whoever buys it decides they want different colors, they can change them without damaging the tail. I do know people have done button braids on a haired model, but I'm not up to that much effort right now.
If you want to give this polo pony a new home, she's at https://www.etsy.com/listing/1655074011/atalanta-custom-breyer-stablemate
How Dale Johnson — Tech Worker by Day, Polo Player by Night — Eats for the Week
I wanted to promo this article, by the Kitchn, that was published on 2/6/21. It interviews a black polo player from the Bay Area about his diet and food choices, as well as his experience as a polo player.
“Here’s proof that one vacation can change your life: On a trip to Buenos Aires just over three years ago, 32-year-old Dale Johnson casually spotted a pair of polo boots on display in a store. “Those shoes are badass, I gotta get into that,” he thought, and months later he joined a clinic. Now, at age 35, Dale is a nationally competitive polo player who, along with his horse, Sunny, is taking the sport by storm.“
