Nine years passed and so much changed since that day. The friend that dared you to do it wound up going to prison for aggravated assault once high school ended. You ended up going to college and graduating with a bachelor’s degree in business and moved straight into a pretty decent apartment from there.
However, there were also a few things that didn’t change. First off, you were closer than ever to the three that you’d met in your freshman year. Minseok had become an older brother to you, being the guy you went to whenever you need help. Jongdae became your best friend, the brunette spending more time with you than most people do.
As for Yixing, you were actually still dating. Everyone had been sure that as soon as you got to know each other that you’d break up, but you never did. In fact, it actually made you closer than ever. You just celebrated your anniversary by (by both of your choice) taking a small cruise with the others.
You and your boyfriend had moved in together almost as soon as you got out of college and at this point, you couldn’t be happier.
“Y/N! Did you get more shampoo?” you heard your boyfriend say as he walked down the hall towards the front room, smiling to where you were in front of the front door.
You couldn’t help but smile back as he approached you. “Yeah, I picked up a couple bottles, they’re under the sink.”
He hummed, moving behind you and slipping his arms around your middle. “That’s good...feel like joining me?”
You shook your head. “As much as I’d love to, I have plans with Minseok and Jongdae so I have to get ready to head out back out soon.”
Yixing smiled heavily and smiled at you. “Alright, but I’m calling dibs on later tonight though, I’m craving cuddles from my baby and I’m not sure how much longer I can hold off,” he said playfully.
You snorted and pecked his lips, lingering for a moment like you occasionally did. “I’m sure you’ll make it. We have to make plans to hang out as a group soon, feels awkward how we keep going off into groups of three.”
He nodded and placed a kiss just below your ear before letting go and moving away. “Maybe. Alright, I’ll go take my shower and let you get ready. Love you.”
You smiled, watching him make his way to the bathroom. “Love you too, have a good shower.”
----------------------------------------------------------
You met up with Minseok and Jongdae at a local cafe, liking to go there since Yixing liked the desserts and Minseok loved the coffee. By the time you’d gotten there, Jongdae and Minseok had already ordered, the older already halfway through his cup.
“Hey, sorry I’m late. Yixing kept me held up.” you greeted, sitting down across from them.
Jongdae hummed in acknowledgment, Minseok snorting. “Same as usual, although it’s not much different with you.”
You rolled your eyes and sat back. “Oh shut up. You e with someone for as long as we have and see how you are with them.” you scoffed.
Minseok took a sip of his coffee. “My longest was a year and a half and I couldn’t imagine being like how you and Yixing are with her...” he mumbled.
You couldn't help the snort that escaped you, Minseok looking at you with a look that told you he knew where you were going with it. “That’s because she just wanted to be able to say she was dating an older guy,” you said, making Jongdae choke on his food.
The elder rolled his eyes. “Just because it’s true doesn't mean you have to remind me,” he grumbled.
Jongdae shrugged. “Hey., be happy you’ve been in a relationship, don’t forget that I’ve been single since high school.”
It was your turn to roll your eyes. “Not without trying. I’ve set you up with so many dates and you’ve always come out of it with some issue with the girl. I’m starting to get the feeling you’re not telling me something.” you said, half teasing him.
An expression crossed Jongdae’s face that you couldn’t quite read. His brows were furrowed, lips falling open before quickly pursing. “Like what?”
You shrugged, running a hand through your hair. “I don’t know, you already like someone, you’re gay. Something like that that you wouldn’t want me to know for some reason or another,” you said.
The man started to shift uncomfortably. "Don’t say stuff like that...” he trailed off.
Minseok let out a heavy sigh. “Okay, how about instead of driving Jongdae to dig a hole and climb in it, why don’t we talk about something that actually matters?”
You nodded. “Yeah, like how birthday season is going to be coming in a couple months, what should we do for it?”
Ah yes, birthday season. It was what you called the time from Jongdae’s birthday in September to Minseok’s birthday in March. It was called this because all of your birthdays fell in fairly close order between them, yours sitting between Minseok’s and Yixing’s. Because of this, you would usually have one big event for all of them and smaller parties for each individually.
The three of you shared a mutual look, each of you having relatively the same idea. When you were in your senior year, the four of you decided that once you were all financially stable enough, you would take a trip to the U.S for a week-long vacation in Las Vegas, where you could forget your problems and share a week with you three favorite people getting absolutely plastered.
This is the first birthday season that you’d all had plenty of money saved and money to spend, so all of you knew what was going to happen.
Jongdae scratched the back of his neck. “I think it’s less of a ‘what’ and more of a ‘when’, seeing as four birthdays are coming up with Christmas amongst them.”
Minseok shugged. “Maybe in like January? We get Christmas and New year out of the way, and it gives us time to plan.”
You nodded. “That sounds pretty good to me, I just have to talk to Yixing when I get home, make sure he can get some time off work before we start planning actual dates.”
They both nodded in agreement and the conversation continued how it usually did, ending up in talking about how life is and stories of the time apart.
Before you knew it, you were saying your goodbyes and exchanging hugs, a box containing a new cake flavor the cafe was trying out for Yixing in your had as you make your way home.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It was no surprise that you came home to find Yixing softly snoring on the couch, laptop sitting on his stomach. He would often do that, lay down while doing work, claiming that he wasn’t even tired enough to sleep, they would be fast asleep within the next ten minutes.
You were extra careful to be quiet, setting the box on the coffee table, then moving the laptop next to it so it wouldn’t fall.
After a moment of organizing, you decided to replace it, kneeling between his legs and sliding until your face was nuzzled into his chest.
The extra weight on top of him woke him up, dark eyes soon coming to look at your face. “Oh Y/N, you’re home. How was hanging out with the guys?” he asked, hands coming to gently play with your hair.
You smiled. “It was good. Jongdae’s still loud and Minseok’s still a smartass, so business as usual. How was your nap?” you asked teasingly.
He huffed. “It wasn’t supposed to be a nap...I was trying to get work done.”
You giggled and kissed his chin. “Well, how was work and how was not doing work?”
Yixing jutted his lip out at you in aa pout. “Working was good. As for the other thing, you’re not funny,” he said, starting to tickle you.
You erupted into a fit of giggles, desperately trying to fight his hold, squirming in hopes of escaping but it was all in vain. He finally relented once you finally gave in and let out a breathy apology between giggles.
Still trying to catch your breath, you looked up at him. “Oh yeah, we talked about the Vegas trip too. We talked about having it in January.”
He laid back down with his eyes closed. “That sounds amazing...I’ve always been really excited about it, not even because of the drinking and partying we’ve planned out but just to have an adventure with you guys. It’ll have a lot of stories to bring back.”
You couldn’t help but grin and lightly stroke his cheek with your hand. “You’re the cutest. And here I was, the thing I’m most excited about getting shitfaced and pushing Jongdae into a pool. Now I look like a bad friend.” you said with a playful pout.
He laughed. “It’s okay baby, I know that you feel the same as me deep down, that's just not your first thought about it. Probably not either of theirs either. It’s something I know you’ll think about when we’re leaving to come back home.”
You sighed and nuzzled him. “You're so sweet, honestly the world doesn’t deserve you”
He chucked and kissed your nose. “Maybe not but I’m glad that I’m here anyway because since I’m here, I have you,” he said with a sweet smile.
God, he’s adorable.
