Hybridize Roses
What is a Hybrid Tea Rose? Created by crossbreeding two types of roses, initially by hybridizing hybrid perpetuals with tea roses, hybrid tea rose is born, best known as the "modern garden rose" The hybrid tea roses hardiness exceeds that of her parents and, thus, has become a very popular rose bush indeed. Most of the hybrid teas have a noticeably fragrant scent, that fragrance being mild to powerful. Hybrid tea roses grow from 3 to 7 feet tall and 3 to 5 feet wide, depending on the cultivar. They have an upright, almost ramrod-straight growth habit. The hybrid tea rose bush produces blooms that are typically one to a stem atop tall canes with long stems perfect for cutting. Big single high centered blooms are preferred by florists; flower shops and rose/flower shows for their uses. These beautiful high centered classic beautiful blooms are what many give or receive from friends or loved ones.
What are Polyantha Roses? The polyantha rose bushes were born from the crossing of wild roses. The polyantha rose bushes are one of the parents of the floribunda rose bushes. The polyantha rose bush’s creation dates back to 1875 – France (bred in 1873 – France), a polyantha rose bush named Paquerette, which has beautiful clusters of white blooms. The polyantha rose bushes are usually smaller rose bushes than the floribunda rose bushes but are sturdy plants overall. The polyantha roses bloom in large clusters of small 1-inch diameter blooms.
Floribunda Roses Floribundas are create by crossing a hybrid tea and a polyantha rose. Floribunda flowers come in various colors and sizes and will produce sprays of flowers all summer. Their range in plant shape makes them versatile landscape plants. Most have good disease resistance and need little care other than water and fertilizer. Floribundas tolerate cold weather better than hybrid teas, Floribunda, as the name implies, produces abundance clusters of flowers on its stems, the individual blooms are bigger most are great cutting flowers. Floribundas have single or semi-double flowers that are cup-shaped or flat, their flowers tended to be small and poorly formed. Floribunda flowers tend to have no smell. Floribunda roses are generally smaller plants than hybrid teas. Floribunda roses grow about 3 feet wide and 2 to 3 feet tall, though some cultivars grow up to 5 feet tall. Floribundas usually bloom later, from early summer to fall.
What is a Grandiflora Rose? Crossbread a hybrid tea and a floribunda rose, then you're get grandiflora rose. She is a true elegant blooming beauty, has the best parts of both of her parents, with her high centered hybrid tea like beautiful blooms on long stems, is excellent for cutting for bouquets and other usages. She also gained the hardiness, good repeat blooming and cluster bloom production of the floribunda rose. The grandiflora rose bush likes to grow tall and will usually exceed all other roses in height other than the climbers, of course. As with the hybrid tea and other classifications of roses, she loves the sunshine and also loves to be fed well and watered well, not to the point of being over fed or kept so wet as to have a soggy root zone, just moist enough for good uptake of the water needed to carry the nutrients up through her root zone to the palace of blooms above! The grandiflora rose appears to have begun with a rose bush named Queen Elizabeth, a medium pink colored fragrant bloomer introduced around 1954.
