The concept of Peter Venkman actually being so teriffied of Egon dying when he tried to self-trepanate himself.
The concept of Peter Venkman making jokes and keep arguing about Egon about it because he is so frustrated that Egon doesn't see the dangers. He doesn't see how he mattered to Peter ot Ray and that's what frustrated Venkman so much.
He had a grudge on Spengler for a whole while after, he made fun of him mostly. He was angry, he yelled at Egon the first time in their lifes. He yelled at him how stupid he can about it. The first time Venkman ever lost his cool about anything.
Usually Venkman was a collected guy, he rarely seemd like the type of person to take things seriously, he jokes, he jabs, he deflects. Rarely he actually gets frustrated at people, rarely Egon or Ray see him take things seriously.
Yet at that moment he yelled at Egon, he took away any sharp objects he found in Spenglers dorm for at least 3 weeks, He watched his lob work. He looked after Spengler like a hawk.
He didn't tell Ray anything about it. He simply just did what he thought was right. If he could he would have called a hospital but he heard those horror stories.
It was a secret between him and Spengler, how utterly horrified Venkman was. He told Ray because he needed to tell someone but he deflected. He made excuses "yeah I need Egon still for my diploma" he would joke.
"If egons dead my education would be too", He simply says.
But in reality he didn't know what to do when Egon actually dies.
He can't lose him and Ray.
