A small tree from Northern Argentina, Polylepis australis (tabaquillo) develops a trunk with bark looking like burnt filo-pastry. The foliage has a delicate pinnate structure and some leaves turn yellow in autumn. It is considered hardy in most areas of the UK and suited to most soils.
