Your clay fanart is so cool!!!! Wow!!!! You make them so detailed and the colors are literally perfect. How long does it take you to make a person? I’m interested in trying but I have like literally zero idea how to even start lol. Do you have any tutorials?

I'm so glad you like them!

A person generally takes about 1-2 hours to make, more complicated figures take longer, Azula took about 4 hours to make, Sokka took 1 hour.

For learning how to make things out of clay I just got a bunch of books on clay techniques from the library and then experimented.( Making Polymer Beads by Carol Blackburn is a good starting point for how to get different effects)

General tips;

Pre-baking the heads and accessories helps, knitting needles and pins make good tools for detailing, white clay shows all the dirt, when making people a wire through the neck is essential because the neck is the weakest point, and don't hold anything tightly or it will end up looking squashed,

That's probably more than enough advice but I hope it is helpful, I think it's great you want to try making things with polymer clay and you definitely should!

Quick Polymer Clay Baking Tips for Beginners (& Experienced Artists Too!...

Having trouble removing clay from your hands? This problem is the worst for new polymer clay users - especially when you are working with multiple colors. The best tool you can have at your art table is hand sanitizer. The alcohol in the hand sanitizer will dissolve the clay. Just rub a little in your hands and then follow-up by washing them in the sink, OR if you are like us and don't want to get up constantly then have some baby wipes handy (aka craft wipes in our house).

Polymer Transfer Technique Put to Good Use!

I learned about this super easy transfer technique for polymer and laser printed pictures a while back, but never applied the knowledge till now.

I ship all of my mini characters in an organza bag (example pictured below). I wanted a unique and original tag for the bags that had my Etsy shop name on them. I wanted to make polymer tags as polymer clay is my medium of choice but I wanted something simple and easy so that I could make a bunch at a time.

I then remembered about the transfer technique. I already have my shop logo on my PC (I created it using my publishing program) so I reduced the size, mirrored the text and viola! Printed a sheet of multiples and I was ready to give this transfer thing a try.

For this technique to work you must use a laser (toner) style printer or copier.

Simply roll out light colored clay, in my case I used white.

Place the image face down on the polymer sheet.

GENTLY Rub the paper to make sure you get all air bubbles out. 

Use a spray bottle or small paint brush to wet the paper - plain water.

Let sit for about 30 Seconds

Gently rub the paper in a circular motion and the paper will start to roll off leaving the image behind!

Cut away the excess clay and bake!

A quick search on Google or Youtube will provide you better instructions and videos that will make sense.

Here is my finished polymer tag attached to the Organza bag. My future bags will be TARDIS blue, since I create Doctor Who themed mini characters the bag has got to be TARDIS blue! If your a Whovian you understand.
