Καλή Χρονιά, θείτσα!!!
I just wanted to say that your blog is so insightful about our Greek heritage and mythology. I can hardly find a blog here about Greek mythology that isn’t so deep rooted in these modern adaptions and as a former archaeology academic student that can hit a nerve.
I remember having no problem with LO, I was thrilled because I thought oooh they’ll read this and want to search more about the actual mythos! But no! And it’s awful how people confuse the original source and go all ballistic and bark talking shit about certain deities ‘cause according to them they did a terrible act which, lemme check, never happened actually! The horrible thing is they don’t even listen when you kindly want to explain to them some actual facts.
Most posts are not property tagged and I came across once a whole thread of why a certain god was a monster without the decency to tag or mention that certain so poor adaption. I can block the tag, sure, but shouldn’t they clarify that this is not about the original source or maybe tag it properly so they won’t confuse others?
*sighs*
Y’know, it’s sad that I can hardly find accurate stuff here about these interests I have. Anyways. Ευτυχισμένο το 2023!!!
PS: Polyxena/Polyxeni (Πολυξένη) actually mean “very hospitable”, not “foreigner”, nor “Priam’s daughter” as I have seen it to be translated many times. I just wanted so bad to clarify the meaning of my name.
Καλή χρονιά σε σένα και σε όλους τους ακόλουθους!! 💙✨ Ευτυχισμένο το 2023!!
Thank you for your message! The Greek mythology landscape isn't getting any better so I thought I would nag about it because enough is enough. The way things are makes you want to bang your head on the wall 😤 I hope stuff from here get reblogged so people find out what a mess talks about Greek mythology have been.
Ok yeah that makes sense, if one also considers Zeus Xenios! But as you said, Anglophone translators don't take it into account.
