Across Mabinogi Chapter II
Linnata ran into the walled city. Her head swivelled in all directions, looking up the stone steps to the right and up over the ledge of what must have been the Dunbarton School. Silvaku walked swiftly enough to keep up, too bad that meant he could hear her flying voice.
"What is up this alley? Why would they put a book store that far in?" She gasped, "Look at that tower! It's huge! Is this the famous Adverturers Association meeting?! LOOK AT ALL THE STORES!!!" She screamed as they turned the corner. The elf barely caught the back of her shirt before she leaped. "Hold on. If you want me to accompany you, you can't go running off out of my sight. I have to be able to locate you," he scolded.
"Well... Where are you going? Maybe we can meet some where?" She suggested.
"You have never been to this town before, how will you know where anything is?" Silvaku asked with a catty tone.
"I'm not stupid... I've studied the map. Just give me a place and let me go! I want to go visit the clothes shop!!!"
"Fine. Weapon shop. Don't take too long." And with that Silvaku released the hyper girl from his grip. She ran off into the busy crowd of Dunbarton's main square. He was nervous to let her go. He stood for a while before deciding she would be alright.. well she would have been if she had taken her robe to shield her face.
Silvaku finally turned south down the road. He had to wait a while in the shadows before the woman at the shop was free.
"I need a decent bow, not the amateur creation of a human," he hissed. The shop master crossed her arms and chose her words carefully.
"I don't appreciate the underestimation of my skills. I have very well built composite bows."
Silvaku took a deep breath. "Is that all? You have nothing Elven?"
"You're in the Human continent, Sir. But I might be able to help you for a high price." Nerys turned and reached under her counter. She spoke as she pulled out a beautiful Guardian Bow. "A man sold this to me today. Decided his investment in long range was a bad idea. An investment indeed. The bow is infused with silver powder and the string is of black leather. He dropped off a black quiver. Will you be paying for that, as well?"
Silvaku's eyes narrowed. The bow was truly beautiful and shined in the sunlight. What indecent human could give up such a beautiful piece? Of course he wanted it and its matching Quiver. The set was more gorgeous than his Ivy Carved Elven Bow back at home in Filia.
"How much?"
"Show me how much you have?" She said, holding back the product. She squinted at him while he pulled out a thick wallet from his robe. "Why is it a proud Elf like yourself is without a bow and quiver?"
Silvaku didn't look the woman in the eye as he admitted his foolishness. "I had never used a transporting feather before. I didn't quite know what I was doing. I left my weapons and supplies sitting on the kitchen counter..."
Then Nerys did something to surprise everyone near by. She laughed out loud, the sound just annoyed Silvaku and he handed over almost his entire wallet. He quickly took his new toys from the shopkeeper and slipped away. He slung the quiver and bow over his back. Silvaku turned just in time to see a white head of hair bob in and out of view from the crowd.
When she squeezed through the people, she revealed herself to be wearing an all new outfit. Silvaku didn't want to open his mouth and speak in fear of slurring his words or leaving his jaw down.
He would have recognized it to be a Ceremonial Stocking... but there were no stockings. Only bare legs and bare thighs and a tight, contouring pink dress. As she came closer she was removing the leather jacket. There were no straps to this dress, only bare shoulders and long slender soft-skinned arms. Silvaku's eyes were stuck as his heart pounded through his thick armor and thick robe.
"Hey! Look what I bought!!!" Linnata exclaimed excitedly. She spun completely around, giving Silvaku a look at her from every view. She had tied her white hair up so her back was left exposed.
Silvaku gulped loudly, "Don't you think it's a little ... short?"
Linnata put her hands on her hips and pouted in Silvaku's face. "Well, it's hot in Filia, isn't it? I'm not wearing a jacket, stockings, AND a robe in the desert!-" She cut herself short with new thoughts, "Oh my gosh! I'm going to Filia and the Desert! I'm so excited!!!!!" She screamed, turning and smoothly dancing in the street. Her skirt flew up a little with the breeze.
Silvaku quickly threw her Sasha robe down over the girl's body. Her head popped up under the hood and she glared at Silvaku with a pushed-out bottom lip. Her arms had been pinned to her body in the robe. He decided to start walking while she figured out the predicament herself.
"Hurry up. We will want to get to Bangor before night fall! Or I'll leave you behind for the Kobolds to play with." Silvaku had swiftly moved himself behind her while she wasn't looking. He whispered his words in her ear, sending chills up her spine.
She managed to push her arms through the robe sleeves just at the end of his words. She tried as hard as she might to strike him for his mean words, but he was able to narrowly dodge the attack. For the second time, he took the lead and she skipped to catch up with him. Just as they were passing the city wall, something occurred to Silvaku. He stopped abruptly and the daydreaming girl ran straight into his back. His balance was undeterred.
"Where did you get the money to buy that new outfit? I know it is only 8,000 gold pieces but... this seams like more than you can afford."
"I found a way to manage," she smiled coyly. She tried to pass him but he stepped in front of her.
"Tell me, Linnata. How did you acquire the gold to pay for such an outfit? How is it you threw away pieces of it so casually?"
She avoided his eyes but still gave him attitude, "Look. It's none of your business! You don't even know me! How do you know I couldn't afford it?" She tried harder to push past him but he caught her arm. He pulled her around, locking her arm behind her back. She was stunned as it happened before she could catch her breath.
His free hand slid down her side professionally. She would have felt violated if she didn't know exactly what he knew. His hand quickly found a small wallet hanging inside of the robe. He shook it and the sound of coins jingling met their ears. "You didn't have this when we separated this morning."
She growled under her breath. "So what!? Who cares if I took a little from those cheap personal shop owners! There bags are sitting right out on the rug and I just snatched up a little from everyone! What's the big deal? Let me go! I'm not returning any of it!!!" She howled.
"So what?" he repeated. He let her go and she stumbled foreword. "So what? So it means you are paying for your own food and ship boarding pass when we get to the port, that's what."
Linnata choked on air. He wasn't angry?
He walked foreword without any anger or disappointment in his step. If she didn't know better, he seemed impressed by her stealth. But he was too formal to support such thievery. She carefully stood up and followed, nervous of what he now thought of her.
"Did you steal the money to pay for your Sasha robe?" he asked casually.
"No! I swear I didn't! I had to work so hard and scrape together savings to get this robe!" She said defensively. "I never stole until I was leaving. I knew to get away I would have to do bad things..."
"Tell me, how you came by an elven robe," Silvaku said, keeping his eyes foreword and his ears tilted back towards her. He stared up at the back of his hood.
"I umm... I sent a request to the quest board in Filia, asking someone to get me a Sasha robe."
"And why did you need one? May I ask? I'm surprised an Elf sent a Human elven attire. There must have been a good explanation."
"Well, I knew if I was wearing elven clothing, I wouldn't look like a human. I wanted to be able to disguise myself for when I left Tir Chonaill."
"Why did you leave Tir Chonaill?"
Linnata shook her head, refusing to continue, "What does it matter? I'm not going to tell you more because I don't even know who you are! You might just turn around and return me to that horrible place..."
"But that would be completely out of my way. I wouldn't back track that far now that we are almost to the Dragon Fossil."
Linnata perked up, "The Dragon Fossil site?!?! Really?"
Silvaku nodded, smiling as she returned to his side for the walk.
