I lost my beloved 12 year old Pomeranian, Freddie, on Friday. He was more than a dog, he saved me. He pulled me from the darkest of grief after losing my Dad. He filled my grieving heart with love. He protected me and he taught me how to truly be self-less. Seeing him battle Cushings Disease these last 2 years was devastating, but Freddie was always brave. His poor body went through soon much, especially these last few months. Back in October the vet told us to brace ourselves for the end within the next 6 months. We threw Freddie an epic 12th Birthday party in November, I took and posted a ton of pictures of him. We loved him as hard as we could, but he let me know pretty clearly it was time in the very early hours of Friday morning. I didn’t want to let him go, I told myself we’d go to the emergency vet later this weekend. I left for work, but turned around and called our vet, people I trusted who helped keep him as healthy and comfortable as possible. My fiancé and I took Freddie for a final goodbye walk around our house, his beddie, his babies, all his favorite spots. We held him close and drove to the vet. I was strong enough to do what I was had feared most in my life. I let Freddie go as comfortably and peacefully as possible while in our arms being told how much we loved him. Being able to be with Freddie in his final moments was beautiful, heartbreaking, and truly cathartic. This weekend has been so hard without him. 12 years was 1/3 of my life. Freddie was a gift I never took for granted. I am so thankful to have so many people in my life who loved Freddie, especially my fiancé. He was a cat guy, always had them growing up. But watching him fall in love with Freddie these last 5.5 years was magical, especially when we moved into our house together 3.5 years ago. T and I haven’t been “alone” together in the house before this weekend. Sharing the loss with him as deeply as I know we do is really helping. I know my broken heart will heal again because Freddie taught me it was possible 💔❤️
