I bought five fennel plants to (hopefully) act as hosts for swallowtail caterpillars. But - and I have absolutely no idea why I thought this - I thought they grew to be about eight inches tall. I thought they would make a nice little border for my rock garden.

Four feet. They get four feet tall and four feet wide. So now I have to dig them up from the two square feet I planted them in and find twenty feet of garden space somewhere else. Whoops!

Our work area was blocked off today so my job just paid me $50 an hour to walk around picking up trash for 8 hours.

Trash . . . And other things. The construction of my second rock garden progresses apace

The night air is once again filled with the racket of frogs down in the pond . . . truly it is spring we fucking made it lads

I've got the window open and I'm listening to the absolute racket of frogs in the pond, and then they all suddenly fell dead silent all at once. What the hell is out there

My anti-consumerism win for the week is that I found out rain barrels are like $150 apiece online, so I called a union buddy who works for a brewery and now I have 3 free 55-gallon barrels that are food-safe and smell deliciously of the lemon flavoring they used to contain (not a necessity for a garden rain barrel but it's nice)

Wait did I tell you guys I found fossilized coral in the rock pile from digging the pond?

It's a pretty large rock and I want so badly to fuck around with it. Crack it open, see if it looks cool on the inside, maybe get some of the coral polished up for wire wrapping because it's kind of hard to see as-is. But then I might destroy it by accident and then I'd have no coral at all, which is obviously unacceptable.
