This video, and the one before it, is one of my favorite bits of filmmaking explanation. Just the sheer "alright, film is very unlike other mediums, and you have to really work these problems and build the film from spare parts, and here are some things that we had to solve".
In particular "it was rainy a lot, so for continuity we would wet down the streets and be able to shoot whether it had just finished raining or not" is so clever.

Film Courage: Theoretically do you think you could have been making money as a filmmaker if Hollywood “didn’t come knocking.” Sorry for the cliché.
David F. Sandberg, Filmmaker (a.k.a. Ponysmasher on Youtube): Like back in Sweden? Yes…maybe. But I would probably have to make different kinds of movies that would be more Scandinavian I guess? It might not necessarily be a bad thing but yes it’s an interesting time to live in with Youtube and everything like that because some people can make a living out of just doing stuff for Youtube. So I’m sure there would be a way without Hollywood.
Film Courage: You were hired to make corporate videos and corporate versions of animated spots?
David: Yes…which wasn’t very fun but it was better than normal jobs still. I think if I’d had someone else to negotiate my salary it would have been more sustainable. I’ve always had that drive so if nothing else I would have just kept making movies with no money. Then I had this idea for a feature film that starred just her [Lotta Losten] with a little bit of me in it that we could shoot ourselves. I think that is what we would have done.

Film Courage: Your first three feature films have grossed 800 million?
David F. Sandberg, Filmmaker: I haven’t checked. That sounds about right…sure? Why not?
Film Courage: Okay. Is this something that 10 years ago you (you and Lotta Losten, David’s wife and creative partner) would have ever imagined?
David: I mean…not to sound like a jerk but in a way yes. Because it was always my dream to make movies and it was always my dream to be a Hollywood director but that was kind of like a secret because I’m from Sweden, from like the other side of the world. I don’t have any family members who are in show biz or anything like that. So it’s not like you can say to friend and family “Yeah, I’m going to be a Hollywood director.” People will be like “Yeah, sure. I’m going to be a the king of Spain…whatever.”
But that was always the goal and then a lot of times that goal has felt really far away and I’ve felt very depressed and felt like this is never going to happen. But that was always the goal, that was what I wanted to do with my life so in a way you can’t say that it’s been expected but it’s always been the goal so it’s always been like “Yes, that’s always what I really want.”...(Watch the video interview on Youtube here).

What Makes A Great Movie Director? by David F. Sandberg via FilmCourage.com.
Film Courage: How do you get comfortable telling people what to do, especially if you feel like they have more experience than you?
David F. Sandberg (a.k.a PonySmasher on Youtube): It can be a bit intimidating and there was some friction actually on the set of LIGHTS OUT where the camera department…there were some arguments about things…like especially the first day was a bit of a setback because since it was my first movie I was like “Oooh, I better not screw this up because this is my one chance in Hollywood.”
I had planned so much and made little storyboards, diagrams with shot lists and everything. Then the first day the DP didn’t really listen to me and some people in the camera department had made like really big movies, we’re talking about…(Watch the video interview on Youtube here).
