Another extract from another interview in 2005:

“NH: Does that disappoint you… in a sense?

RT: That’s the right word. Disappoint me is the right word, yeah. You know I wrote John a note saying you know, we’d love to, love to have you play on the     tour, because I think ... it… you know, you’re our bass player. And..., but he doesn’t want to be a bass player anymore, he doesn’t want to be a (indistinct       word, possibly loony???) musician, and he’s chosen to have a quiet life, and you know, and good for him. We respect that. But at the same time he, he wrote us a note saying that he goes along with what we feel we want to do, and supports us, but from a distance and with a non-active role.”

“Asked what he and his late-1960s college pal Taylor are most likely to disagree about, he rolls his eyes. "Everything under the sun. It's still soooo painful. But I'm sure it's our strength."

But bassist John Deacon? Does his lack of involvement indicate disapproval?

"No, it indicates not wanting to be part of public life. He's seen the show, in London, and he loved it, but that was it.

He didn't want to be involved one iota. If you want the truth, it's a shame for us. I would love to have more contact with him, but he just doesn't want it.”
