Bran: Would my patronus be a crow or a raven?
Jon: Aren't they basically the same thing?
Bran: ... That was so ignorant I'm not even going to acknowledge it.

After getting home from the ball, he'd immediately been confronted with a very itchy and very grumpy daughter. In the few hours he'd been away from her she'd begun to show signs of the chicken pox. He could only guess which friend she'd contracted it from. It was a long night with her but she'd passed out close to sunrise and he'd snuck down to the screens to check on the status of the games. He sat down for a breather and passed out almost immediately, tossing and turning in the big armchair and snoring like always.
Can’t recall if I’ve had this conversation with Bran before. He’s quite upset about what happened to Dumar, and waiting for the axe to fall on him when the templars decide he can be replaced. “I’m just the hand on the seal, waxing what I’m told.” He talked a little about the state of the search for a new Viscount (it’s not good), and further impressed upon Joan the necessity of making nice with Meredith if she wants to rise further in power in the city.
Joan was less sympathetic than I am:
“When Viscounts die, it’s the sycophants who truly suffer.”
“If his death were more fresh in my mind, I would give you such a...
...
...censuring.”

💀 (River)
💀 for what my muse would say upon hearing about your muse’s death.
“…I’m sorry grasshopper.”
Tears were shamelessly sliding down Bran’s cheeks as he faced a stunned Isabelle, having been waiting for her on the platform as the train from Three arrived. She hadn’t been expecting him to be here, he’d made that clear at the end of last year when he said he was going to be joining the fighting, and she’d made her own feelings perfectly clear: she’d thought it was stupid, she’d even left the room and refused to talk to him for the rest of the Games. She’d regretted how they’d parted, but now he was here they could fix it right?
“Why? What did you do?” she asked softly, raising an eyebrow in suspicion. Whenever someone actually apologised in this hell hole it was never for a good reason.
“It’s River.”
Suddenly, the world began to slow down slightly, a persistent ringing in her ears blocking out the most of Bran’s explanation. Dead, fought in the rebellions, died in Bran’s arms. She froze, shaking her head. No, River wasn’t dead. She hadn’t lost another brother, he hadn't changed his mind about joining the rebels. The last she’d heard he wasn’t joining the fight, he wouldn’t do that to Glitter, to his children.
She could hear Forrest and the kids behind her, tears beginning to form as she realised what had happened. She could hear Marley exclaim at the sight of Bran, immediately launch into details of the train detail whilst Gabriel tugged on her hand and asked a thousand questions about when they were going to see Electra and whether she would be able to take them to the park later. Forrest carried Hazel behind them, eyes locked on Isabelle as he noticed something had happened.
“Grashopper–”
“No–”
“Belle–”
“I said no–” before she could even think her hand had reached out, palm connecting with Bran’s face before she even realised what was happening. Silence fell between the twins as they stared in awe at their mother, wondering why she had been hitting their uncle as Bran backed off. Tears sliding unchecked down her cheeks she didn’t remove her gaze from his face as a thousand memories of River alive, smiling, healthy appeared in her mind.
“You did this.” she whispered brokenly, backing away herself as the twins began to cry a little. “You did this.”
“He’s gone because of you.”
She didn’t remember anything further, the world going dark. Her brother was gone, there was nothing else she could fathom in that point.
I've finally been convinced to start reading A Game of Thrones. God help me. In other news, trying not to scream "what the fuck?!" on a public bus when a seven year old is thrown out a window is harder than it sounds.
Oh my God, Jaime, I think I just learned a lot more about you.
Holy shit.
