#poor gnoll

So I overkilled a Gnoll last session.

Me: Paladin bard lvl 3, AC of 19.

Gnoll: has 23hp left.

Me: rolls Nat20 with radiant whip, rolls Max damage of 9 (+5 mod) doubled is 18. I decide to roll my Devine smite as well. 2d8 max damage of 16.

Gnoll: knows it’s about to die.

Me: Deals 34 points in damage 16 of which is radiant.

Dm: How do you want to do this?

Me: surprise me.

Dm: Your whip cracks, wrapping around the Gnoll’s neck. You hear a strange snapping sound and with a final pull of your whip you decapitate the Gnoll, a spray of crimson flying through the air.

Gnoll: dead, so very very dead, missing it’s head and at negative 11hp.

Me: ...Huh. Didn’t know I could decapitate someone with a whip. Let’s do it again!

DID have a different tone than his younger co-worker, but even then...    “If you aren’t actually Miller then what’s your name?” And what did alter egos have to do with this..?
