I don't know how to describe it, but I think the embalmed hand in Talk To Me (2023) is actually a brilliant representation of the film's message. It's a hand! We hold hands to connect with others! when you're struggling mentally, abusing your vices, feeling isolated - you're meant to reach out and talk to someone!!!!! if mia had turned to her friends, her friend's mum, or even her dad, and said she's not ok and needs help, then she might've had a happy ending. but instead of reaching out to make a real connection, she clings onto this fake hand, providing comfort that won't last, that will only causes her to spiral further and further away.
it's brilliant. an embalmed, ceramic hand is not the hand you should be reaching for.
