Poor guy was just trying to get back his employer's property.
He was doing his JOB, Goliath!
Deadly Force, S1 ep 8
i just watched day in the death and i cried. it’s so beautifully written. i genuinely feel like i need to appreciate the little things in life more, this episode reminded me of that. i’ve been really depressed lately. owen’s state felt to me like a metaphor for depression. people, like tosh expecting him to give something when he simply has nothing left, no breath, no warmth. being so numb you would literally kill yourself just to feel something. and when he tries to drown it doesn’t change anything, doesn’t end the nightmare. he’s already dead.
then talking maggie down from the ledge throughout the episode. of course he doesn’t want her to throw her life away. he was suicidal, then realised after death what life means. living on for the simple things, day after day. he didn’t realise that, living his life wanting to die. and now he’s dead, wishing he’d realised that while he was alive. but you can’t change the past. it is what it is. you can only live now. this is his life. he’s both dead and alive at the same time.
kinda like being depressed.
anyway, this episode emotionally wrecked me and i wanted to post about it somewhere. brb while i lie on my bed sobbing about it for the next few hours.
Uncle Owen ABSOLUTELY needs a line in the Kenobi series to someone about how he’s trying to find a droid that speaks Bocce.
* As you’ll all recall, this is something he is concerned about finding waaaaay back in A New Hope when he and Luke go to the Jawa Yard Sale and buy Artoo and Threepio.
* In the new canon comics Star Wars run from a few years back, we see him trying to find such a droid there as well. In this comic, Luke appears to be like 10-12 or somewhere around there:
* Owen (and his dad and stepmom) DID, however, own a droid that spoke Bocce at one point. You guys might recall that said droid was C-3PO, which Anakin left with/gave to his mom when he left Tatooine to go become a Jedi.
* Hilariously, when Anakin shows up in Attack of the Clones, after Shmi dies Anakin just TAKES THREEPIO WITH HIM. These poor farmers actually NEED the assistance of this droid, and here’s Anakin all “welp my mom definitely would want me to take this back with me, probably”. Like it doesn’t even appear that Anakin discussed this, he just marches off with a robot he doesn’t even really need, and it could certainly be argued he definitely does not own. He even told Padme back in The Phantom Menace that he’d built Threepio to help his mom. His stepfamily seems perfectly nice and seem to have been good to Shmi, and one would THINK Anakin might presume that his mother would WANT her husband and stepson who genuinely need this robot to help them on their farm in the middle of nowhere to retain ownership of it. Nope. He takes Threepio with him.
* (Anakin then proceeds to give Threepio to Padme -- because, again, Anakin does not have any immediate use for a protocol droid given that he is a busy Space Knight who spends less time running a moisture farm or hosting political dinner parties and more time swinging from chandeliers with Obi-Wan and whatever -- which, I mean, OK. Obviously Threepio could be of help to a busy Senator, sure. But Padme is also well-off and could probably, I dunno, pick up a droid on her own? Or Anakin could just BUILD HER ANOTHER ONE?)
* Now, obviously it is possible that the Larses require multiple droids that speak Bocce. It’s also possible that they have owned many, but have bad luck with their droids and are frequently needing to replace them. BUT, it is also entirely possible that after Anakin kinda semi-stole Threepio from them, the Larses are never able to find another droid that speaks Bocce for the next 20+ years. And then when they finally DO, IT IS LITERALLY JUST THREEPIO AGAIN. 😂 (And then, as an ADDED bummer, poor Uncle Owen only retains ownership for like, 1 full day before he is murdered. By the Empire. THANKS AGAIN, ANAKIN.)
WHY DID THEY MAKE OWEN LOOK LIKE THAT
Writing Torchwood fic with undead!Owen be like:
'The team assembled in the boardroom to discuss the latest alien happenings. Ianto handed out coffees to everyone - except Owen, who was dead and couldn't drink any.'
'After the big alien chase, the team were left breathless and panting - except Owen, who was dead and could run forever.'
'To celebrate a job well done, Jack bought the team breakfast sandwiches as the sun rose over Cardiff - except for Owen, who would never eat again'
Imagine the stress poor owen would be going through having to tell Buffalo
he’d be like soooooo about that…
Where do you think Owen got all those burn scars?
My guess is that it occurred sometime when he was younger, like before the events of TLOU. I think it was actually well before, since I think he has scars on his right arm that you can see in Abby's SLC flashback.
Even if he doesn't, I still think that is probably when it occurred. Perhaps it happened when his family was killed, and maybe Abby's dad saved his life. That would fit, at least to me. I'd love to hear anyone's headcanon for this though.
