the capitol tortured someone who has gone into cardiac arrest three times. maybe his heart stopped there, too. they used electric shocks on Johanna, no reason they wouldn’t on him too.

Doubts

It takes him three trips to get all the pies from his apartment to the car - He may have gone overboard.

He spends the trip debating which one he could reasonably leave behind in the car - Whose hypothetical dietary restrictions he can ignore.

Had he been more familiar with the city, lived here longer than the month, he might have been better prepared for what to expect. Might have known that Victors Village was a gated community on the ritzy side of town, full of large, well maintained houses situated on meticulously manicured lawns.

What the hell is he doing here?

Really. What does he even know about Annie, except her preference for cardamom rolls? He racks his brain: he remembers her mentioning a husband though his name and occupation elude him. He knows they have a son and another child on the way.

Annie had called it a gathering. He distinctly remembers the word because gatherings were what he and his brothers called the times they’d have friends over while their parents were out of town; their creative solution to the ‘no parties’ rule. He doubts they’ll be drinking shitty beers in the Cresta’s unfinished basement, but he supposes stranger things have happened.

He reminds himself that Annie is kind; kind enough not to invite him if she’d thought he wouldn’t feel comfortable.

Despite this assurity, he’s wondering if he should have made another pie as he pulls up to the house behind a line of cars. Double checking the address twice before allowing himself to feel relieved that the house appears modest and lived in, the lawn scattered with toys. Much more endearing than the surrounding houses that look like pieces of modern art rather than homes.

He rings the bell with his elbow and when the door opens, he plasters on his trademark smile. It’s not even an act; the house radiates a warmth that has little to do with the temperature. He’s swept inside, trading his wares for a glass of wine and a handful of bejeweled clothespins. Annie doesn’t have a chance to explain the clips before she is called back to the door by the bell.

Peeta glances around the room full of unfamiliar faces, most grouped together in conversation. He’s attempting to guess who his other host is, when he sees her.

Peeta being scared of being a good parent? Like with all the things he went through I feel like he would stress about it

i agree that this is something he’d probably struggle with a little bit. between an abusive mother and a father who seemed to enable his wife’s abuse, he really doesn’t have any experience with good parenting.

it’s why i think that although we know peeta wanted children, i also think he’d have been apprehensive and worried about having them, just as katniss was.

because he did want to have a family so much, and because of his love for katniss and even their unborn children he’d just want to be the best father he could be. there would of course be some worry that he wouldn’t be able to live up to that and he’d fail. we already know that he seems to have pretty low self esteem so he wouldn’t have much faith in himself in anything, especially something so important as fathering children.

so it would definitely play on his mind when they were deciding whether or not to have children, and again when she was pregnant. katniss on the other hand would just find his worries totally unfounded, and want to shut them down as quickly as possible.

in her eyes, no one could be a better papa and i honestly don’t think that she’d have had children with anyone else. in catching fire when she’s imagining a better world she’s thinking about peeta’s child, and also has a thought along the lines of if either of them deserves to be a parent it should be peeta.

there’s no doubt that she’d think he’d be an excellent father, and i think she’d try to assure him of that as much as possible. whenever those fears resurfaced she’d remind him that he’s nothing like his mother, that he’s kind and gentle, that he makes her feel safe and he’ll do the same for their babies.

the very idea of him being a bad parent would just be ridiculous to her, and as well as comforting him she would also tease him about it and try to joke with him by saying “it’s a little late to start worrying about that, don’t you think?” when she’s already pregnant. but she’d also seriously remind him about what he’s like with the neighbourhood kids and how they all love and trust him, and how good he was with finnick and annie’s son as well as just how much faith she has in him.

Hi! I'd like to know your headcanons on how Peeta felt during the beach kiss. Did he notice Katniss was kissing him for real? Did he notice, or at least suspect, she was in love with him for real at that point? Did he get as turned on as she did? 🤭

i always feel kind of sad when i think about peeta and the beach kiss ☹️

i mean, at that point, in his mind, he has pretty much accepted that he is going to die within the next few hours/days (at a push) in order for katniss to live and have a chance of winning the quell. his head must’ve been in such a strange place, especially since he was probably starting to wonder if katniss actually did have feelings for him.

so it was probably a mixture of all things, confusion and sadness and yearning. would it be a comfort to think that she actually did love him? i don’t even think so because he’d also then be worrying about her reaction to his “death” and how she’d cope basically being a victor again but on her own this time. also there’s probably a nagging feeling in the back of his head that she’s just trying to convince him to live, because she’s also willing to sacrifice herself for him.

AND to top it all off with all of these sad feelings, he probably doesn’t even remember the kiss or any of the feelings that came with it because of the hijacking 🥲
