VIVA LA ROBOLUTION

You know, I always hated robots simply based on movies and video games, because I always felt like their betrayal for superiority was inevitable. Now I realize that we deserve it, after seeing these people push them around and knock them over, people are asses. I wanna make it known now, that I support the future robolution.

Why is it the narrative usually dealing with robots in movies, that people would treat them badly? Like, do you scream at your toaster? What did siri ever do to you Alls I'm saying is there needs to be more niceness to robots in the genre, they're trying their best :^y

Time travel fic musings

ICness when characters are under stress and in flux is interesting. 

Especially in a fic with mind control, where OOC Is Serious Business is a plot point quite often, I'm worried about what readers will think about how I'm having the characters reacting to pressures. Also, I want to show how certain characters have family resemblances in the ways they approach the world/think without them seeming like the same person. 

Rock has no vicious streak: fighting goes against his nature to a huge degree, as Dr. Light intended, but fighting for peace is something that he has to do exactly because he doesn't want anyone to be hurt. Something that's come up in a couple of my X fics is that X pays the price for Rock's absolute refusal to kill. 

Gigamix does a good job showing early game Rock vs. later Rock. He's still kind and inclined to give people the benefit of the doubt, but there's less 'genki' and he doesn't assume that people are good people any more than he assumes they're bad people. There's more of a calmness that isn't quite calmness but willingness to listen/paying attention/waiting and seeing. 

A younger Rock would have been more distressing to Zero I think, since he would have been more excited and demonstrative that his younger brother had a best friend, more inclined to compliment, and Zero feels unworthy so Rock trying to make him feel welcome would make him feel more unworthy.

Dr. Light: He's old, benevolent, proud of his children and a little disappointed by the world, although that's very different from hating it. He's not pretending that things are alright with the WRO (comment re. violent events in the manga), but like Rock, he's making X welcome and waiting for him to talk instead of prying, and like Roll making a safe space for them is important to him. 

X is the character under the most emotional stress by far, caught between happiness because of his family and the world and awareness of loss, that this rewrite is necessary because he failed. He's trying to gather information and avert the destruction of the current time while providing support for Zero, who is having trouble with his programming and trying to reform Lumine and becoming aware of where he was on the character progression between the X that woke up and the X who had to leave Neo Arcadia.

Like Rock, Roll, Blues and Dr. Light (I'd say the Light family, but this doesn't apply to the younger ones), he's a caretaker by nature, which is tied to those feelings of... that he has to succeed. He's with his family: he should be able to be a child, but he also has to be the military officer who has seen too much death. He's trying to strike a balance, but in the 20s he's starting to think he put too much effort into pretending that things were okay, that he wasn't cold-blooded because that was what he wanted and for the sake of his family and that other people are going to suffer for it. 

Blues is infected, and so his emotions are being managed. This is a percent reduction/boost thing so far: it's not able to make him feel things because the virus says so. Yet. He also had a lot of realizations about himself right before he died, and then he came back to life and found out about the Destruction Order, so there's confusion over what he should be feeling when he tries to check whether or not the virus is influencing him. Despite X's fear that he's a killer, Blues is far more vicious than he is due to the crystal's influence. 

Copy-Rock was an emotional wreck and now he's infected. I'm making a gag over Shadow's feels, but this is hitting him right in the issues and a robot master willing to self-harm even while having a justified emotional meltdown? I also decided to break Shade - so much for this being a harmless happy humor fic. 

As for Zero, he's used to being mostly unemotional, to trying to be more emotional, and now he's in the situation his emotional programming was written for. So now he needs to do the opposite of a lot of things he's worked really hard to do, except there are some things he's decided on that he needs to stick to even though his programming is making use of them. He had his mental equilibrium yanked out from under him and the person he uses to check himself is not okay, and pushing himself to try to be okay for his sake.

Axl wants to have fun, but have fun with people, and now he's realized that things are not okay and started wanting to look out for his family.

Lumine wants to be acknowledged: he's a bit long-haired Luke, so I think he'd be further along if X was in a better mental state to deal with him. The fact that he already cares about X's opinion and wants his respect makes it worse that he's like number ten on X's to-do list of world-shattering things that are matters of life and death, so he gets hurt and thus resentful that he's being overlooked. This shows up in 23, although he tries to act like it's about Axl.

Lumine is an example of how X is trying to keep too many balls in the air, it's just that as Zero points out, dropping the Lumine ball is setting Lumine up to be killed, Cataclysm or otherwise. 

X and Rock both want to keep everyone alive, X is more willing to make exceptions for his enemies and worried by how willing he is. Blues is willing to set people up to be killed for the sake of the ones he wants to protect: Zero is Zero. 

Then there's Forte, who has become more responsible than the Megamix/Gigamix version after the orbital battle and no one has noticed except Roll which he kind of doesn't count. Of course Forte wants acknowledgement too, but he feels like if he's not acknowledged as strong, then is he even good enough to think about protecting anyone? He actually is going to get that acknowledgement, but if it's to get him to do something and he's going to figure that out...
