Headcanon: Kagome being scared on whats going to happen after she finishes her mission, will she remain here in this world? will she just fade away? leaving her son and new found friends and brother? she doesn't know, but she knows the jewel is unpredictable & anything can happen, and the day before they defeat Voldemort, she takes Shippo aside and tells him to look after his uncle if anything happens, James listening in from behind a tree, Shippo knows he is there and he sobs into her shoulder-

-knowing this could be the last time he see’s his mother, and he swears he’ll become their house matron or something, that sh can leave everything to him, James just slides down the tree, lost in thought. Later that night, she is kind to everyone and she gives James a hug and tells him she is the best brother the fates could have ever blessed her with, and he holds onto her like she really will fade away, and as she lays in that field looking at her hands and realizes, she is still there, she turns towards her family, and smiles in relief but with a conflicted expression on her face, Shippo drops to his knees in relief and lets out a quiet sob, his mother is still with him, he won’t be losing her again, and James walks over and sits besides her and asks “Are you going yo be okay?” she smiles “yeah, I think I am, sorry you ended up with such a weird sister” he grins but with a serious voice he asks “now how in Merlin’s name am I Shippo’s uncle?” Her face drops in alarm ‘Shit!’

This is going to be a legit concern for Kagome (among other things) but yeah, this will definitely weigh heavily on her mind during the war.
